Marty Ward seemed to have the spectators fooled in the Late-Model Stock main event at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC Saturday night, but he moved by Ralph Carnes with six laps remaining and went on to his second-straight win.
Six-time champion Ward took his time moving through the field, after starting fifth. Once he worked his way inside Carnes for the lead, he moved on out for the victory.
It was the second straight victory for Ward. The only difference was a week ago he won the pole position and led every lap.
Saturday night fifth was the best Ward could do in qualifying but in the end there wasn’t any difference. It was Ward taking the checkered flag. Carnes was second, with Jeremy Burns in third. Anthony Anders was fourth and Will Burns took fifth. Greg Welborn, Austin Aker, Bob Root, Barry Boggero and Toby Porter rounded out the top ten.
Porter, the track champion points leader going into the race suffered a right rear flat tire and ended up stranded on the backstretch of the last lap.
Tim Lollis was dominating in the Trucks main, starting on the front row and leading every lap. Randy Ballew was second, with Ryan Walker third. Chris Chastain took fourth and Michael Altop was fifth.
In the Chargers main event, James Johnson took control with one-third of the race complete, and stayed ahead of Andy Norris for the final ten laps to score the victory. In victory lane, Johnson said this season didn’t start just the way he and his team wanted, but the car has been running better recently. Michael Mote was third, as Zach Pressley and Mike Mote rounded out the top five.
Dale Stancil held off Kyle Ballew to win the Renegades main event, and Jeremy Drummond took third. Scott Tyner and Travis Cox completed the top five.
Buck Simmons was victorious in the four-cylinder division, with James Madden in second. David Rader, who won last week and started in the rear, moved up to third. Donovan Beacham was fourth and Sara Madden took fifth.
David Rader picked up the win in the Street Stock division, with Freddy Hale, Jr., taking second. Mark Gibson was third, as Kirk Gibson took fourth, Dylan Crowe fifth, and Furman Craft was sixth.
