Fifteen year old Matt Dooley is not old enough to legally drive on the highways of Georgia, but the Brooks high school student can pilot a race car on the 3/8ths mile clay oval of New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Georgia. Dooley led flag to flag snaring victory for the second straight week in the Crown Security Crate Late Models.
Also winning on a special holiday weekend racing card was ‘Racin’ Jason Williams in the Mike Wheelers Automotive & Transmission Late Models, Blake Griffin in the Newnan Bonding B Cadets, Clifton ‘Hog Head’ Moran in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks, Dorough Bright in the Mini Stocks and Dustin Satterfield topped the crash filled Demolition Derby field.
‘Magic’ Matt Dooley used the pole position to his advantage after clocking in the fastest during pre-race qualifying efforts. Dooley bolted to the lead at the drop of the green with Jenkinsburg’s Trey White sliding into second on the low side. Grantville’s Doug Ludwig was stuck on the outside and fell back to fifth as Hamilton’s Thomas Lewis and Newnan’s Parrish Duncan moved by on the inside.
Dooley led the field through a non-stop main event for the crate engine powered late model division. White held off the early race challenge from Lewis to finish a season best second while Ludwig was able to get back past Duncan to come home fourth.
“I love this track,” said an elated Dooley during the post race interview. “We are only a few miles from home and now we have the car working so well. It’s just awesome to win here.”

‘Racin’ Jason Williams won for the fifth time this season in the Mike Wheeler’s Automotive & Transmission Late Model division. The Locust Grove driver also led wire to wire beating out Thomaston’s Shane Fulcher and Phenix City’s Lavon Sparks for the checkered flag.
Williams’ win also pulls him within seventeen points of Lavon Sparks in the late model season rankings. Williams, Sparks and Fulcher are locked in a points battle, with all three separated by only eighteen markers going into the Mid-Season Championships scheduled for this Saturday, July 9. Fulcher fell back one spot in the standings to Williams after finishing one position back in second place.
Blake Griffin set a record on Saturday night. The Grantville resident led the Newnan Bonding B Cadet feature race for nearly two hours. Griffin held the position while the field waited out a one hour and thirty-five minute rain delay and then cruised to his first victory of the season. Union City’s Billy Bright, Jr. finished second ahead of fifteen year old Corey Payton from Newnan and Watkinsville’s Buck Williams. Points leader Jeff Carter of Stockbridge ended up fifth after being in a first lap accident with Hamilton’s Brand Lewis. Carter now has a commanding lead in the division standings as his nearest point rival, Billy Bright, Sr., was absent from the field on Saturday night.

Carrollton’s Clifton ‘Hog Head’ Moran picked up his ninth win of the season in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stock division. Moran shot out to the lead at the drop of the green leaving the race action for second place and back. Pole sitter Houston ‘Hoot Daddy’ Hatchett battled a tight race car the entire night as he faded back and then fought back.
Hatchett raced back and forth with Newnan’s Rusty ‘Rocketman’ Johnson for the runner-up spot. Hatchett would slide high in the fourth turn allowing Johnson to slide past down the front stretch, and then would use his momentum on the high side of the track to scoot past in turn two and down the back stretch. The two exchanged the position three times before the checkers fell over the field.
When the dust settled, Moran had the victory, Johnson would end up in second followed by Hatchett, McDonough’s Ted Minix and Brooks’ Mike Jenkins. Austin Horton came home sixth while piloting his Bomber car in the Hobby Stock class feature event.

Whitesburg’s Dorough Bright used a fifth lap mistake by then leader Bo Chambers to take over the lead in the Mini Stock feature before heading off to victory lane for his third win of the season. Griffin’s Chambers led the field from the drop of the green until he slid low in turn two and was caught up in the slop created on the low side during the passing rain storm. Chambers would recover but only good enough to finish in fourth.
Bright picked up the win and improved his points lead in the process. Previous week Mini Stock feature winner, Bobby Arnold of Newnan, finished in second ahead of Barnesville’s Gary Parker. The Barnesville competitor trails Bright in the season standings by only twenty-two points heading into this Saturday night’s mid-season championships. Bo Chambers and Whitesburg’s Brandon Bright rounded out the top five finishers for the four cylinder stock car division.
The final event of the special holiday weekend racing card was the old fashioned smash ‘em up Demolition Derby. Griffin’s Dustin Satterfield placed the final blow on Moreland’s Bobby Duell to pick up the championship hardware for the second annual event.
This Saturday night, July 9th, New Senoia Raceway hosts the Mid-Season Championships. Half-way points titles will be awarded in the Mike Wheeler’s Automotive & Transmission Late Models, Crown Security Crate Late Models, Newnan Bonding B Cadets, Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks and Mini Stocks. The Bombers will also be on the racing card for this Saturday night as they continue to compete on an every other Saturday night basis through the end of the season in September.
