Jonathan Davenport became the first four-time winner this season on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour.

The Blairsville, Georgia speedster swept the Clash At The Mag weekend at Magnolia Motor Speedwayin Columbus, Mississippi.

On Thursday night, the three-time series champion held off Mike Marlar to win the 25-lap feature event on Thursday Night at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Davenport took the lead on the second lap from Kyle Bronson as he went on to capture the victory.

Marlar moved into the second spot on lap 10, and then stayed close to Davenport the rest of the distance to finish in the runner-up spot by .687 seconds behind the winner. Tim McCreadie finished in third, followed by Josh Richards in fourth and Zebulon, Georgia’s Shane Clanton in fifth.

“As much as I was slowing down at the end, I knew someone was there,” said Davenport. “I was just kind of searching all over, but I really couldn’t find anything good. I was just trying to take up as much racetrack as possible.

“This new car is a pretty good piece. McCreadie and I were discussing before the feature some of the stuff he was doing so we try to help each other out. It’s encouraging to win the first night out. It’s just a testament to Longhorn, they have been building some really good cars. I just go into it with an open-mind and just think it’s going to do what I want it to and so far it has.”

Davenport continued his winning ways on Friday night, leading flag-to-flag to win the Optima Batteries Clash at the Mag. The event was co-sanctioned with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series.

Mississippi racer Michael Arnold turned in his best career run in the LOLMDS as he finished second to the winner. Jimmy Owens was third followed by Kyle Bronson in fourth and Mike Marlar in fifth.

With forecast models calling for up to an inch of rain on Saturday, track and series officials made the decision to alter the weekend schedule with the event finale being moved to Friday night.

Davenport and Owens ran one-two for the first 35 laps of the race until Arnold moved into second, breaking up the duel. A caution with six laps to go gave Arnold one last shot at Davenport, but Davenport pulled away to win by 1.8 seconds.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 54th time in his career, Davenport is now two-for-two with his brand-new Longhorn Chassis.

“Once we got to lapped traffic, I was okay with the yellows,” Davenport said. “These guys are so good behind me I was afraid somebody as going to burn in another groove. I spun my tires on the next to last restart and I screwed Jimmy (Owens) up a little. I may have cost him a second-place finish. I might be kind of picky where we run this car at the rest of the season, it’s a good piece.”
