The finish of Saturday night’s Stock V8 feature at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway came down to a drag race to the finish line between Chad Puckett and Junior Carter, with Puckett getting to the checkered flag about a foot ahead of Carter for the victory.
It was a spirited, back and forth race that turned on a late caution flag bunching up the field on the ¼-mile clay raceway.
Puckett started the race from the fifth spot, while Carter and Trey Pilgrim led the field to the green flag from the front row. Pilgrim took the early lead, while both Carter and Pilgrim worked up to the second and third positions.
Pilgrim had pulled out to a healthy advantage only to see it go away when the caution came out late in the going for a slow car in turn one.
On the restart, Carter quickly went to work on the leader, getting a run on Pilgrim as the field raced off turn two to move to the point. One lap later, Puckett would move to second off turn four, moving Pilgrim to third.
Carter and Puckett then gapped the field as the two diced back and forth for the lead. With the white flag in the air, Puckett powered to the inside of Carter as the duo raced down the backstretch.
The two raced side-by-side into turn three, setting up a dash to the win off of turn four. Puckett inched ahead as the duo flashed under the checkered flag to score the win.
Carter finished in second, with Pilgrim in third.
In other action, Nick Sellers held off Will Harris for the win in the Limited Late Model feature. Brandon Roberts finished in third, with Joe Yarborough in fourth and Josh Lewis in fifth.
Mike Davison topped the Hobby 602 field for the feature victory, with Chase Lampp second, Nick Sellers third, Justin Roberts fourth and Josh Roberts fifth.
Aaron Criswell took the win in the Modified Street feature, followed by Jordan Poole in second and Quik McCannon in third.
Justin Taylor was the winner in the Stock 4A feature, with Matt Gerrin, Austin Brumbelow, Allen Cantrell and Joseph Dyer rounding out the top five.
Scott Barner took home top honors in the Stock 4B feature. James Ellenburg finished in second, followed by Brian Shaw in third, Bobby Croya in fourth and Britani Page in fifth.
