While the forecasters said there wouldn’t be much of a threat from the weather over the weekend, Mother Nature had other ideas.
Pop up thunderstorms washed out the racing plans of a few speedways in our area over the weekend.
On Saturday, track officials at Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway were just minutes away from holding the driver’s meeting when showers developed to the north and the south of the 3/8-mile clay raceway.
With torrential rains falling over the track, and with the ground already saturated from Friday night storms, the infield and frontstretch were soon flooded. That left no choice but to cancel the night’s events, which was to include a visit from the National Vintage Racing Series.
Up next for Hartwell Speedway will be the final points paying races of the season on Saturday, September 21. The speedway will also host the eighth annual “Pause For The Cause” event that night, benefiting an area cancer patient.

On Friday night, Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, South Carolina had planned to host their regular season ending Night of Champions.
But the wet weather intervened, with a line of storms passing over the 3/8-mile paved overall early in the evening, washing out the night’s events.
