Parker Herring avoided trouble in front of him, threading the needle between two cars as the leaders crashed in Saturday’s Crate Late Model feature at Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway.
That move allowed the Hartwell, Georgia native to take the lead, and go on to record the victory at the 3/8-mile clay raceway.
Adam Pritchett held the lead through most of the 20-lap feature, with Cody Pritchett nipping at his heels. With a couple of laps left, the duo was battling for the top spot.
As they raced off of turn four, Partain’s car suddenly lost power, leaving Pritchett with no where to go. Pritchett piled into the back of Partain’s car, sending both spinning and sliding down the frontstretch.
Behind them came Herring, first ducking to the inside to avoid Pritchett, then cutting to the outside to avoid Partain’s car as it slid into the inside guardrail in turn one.
Fortunately, both drivers escaped injury, but the field sat for a period of time under the red flag to allow track officials to clean the scene.
Once the race resumed, Herring went on to lead the final three laps en route to the victory. Nick Dietz finished in second, with Danny Sanders in third, Jimmy Mason in fourth and Goat Fortson in fifth.
For the second straight week, the Young Guns feature provided one of the best finishes of the night. Trent Blackwell held the early lead over Tanner Nation and Adam Partain, but saw his night go south when mechanical issues sidelined him.
That handed the lead to Nation, who had won the week before by inches over Partain. On the final lap, Partain got a run on Nation off of the fourth turn, setting up a drag race to the finish line. For the second straight week, Nation edged out Partain by inches to score the win.
Partain was second, with Cole McKeehan in third and Alyssa Goldsmith in fourth.
In other action, David McCoy took the early lead in the Limited Late Model feature and went on to record the victory. Pole sitter Grant Jordan finished in second, with Mason Tucker in third, Drew Cole in fourth and Chris Woods in fifth.
Cody Segars held off Jessie Ivester for the win in the Hobby feature. Shane Yarbrough, Nick Carter and Joe Yarbrough rounded out the top five.
Chris McKeehan was the winner in the Open Wheel Modified feature. Stanley Hill came home in second, with Matthew Wall in third.
Smokey Roberts took the win in the Modified Street feature, with Thomas Segars in second, Kyle Gordon in third, Johnny Pilgrim in fourth and Richard Jones in fifth.
Chance Segars edged out a hard charging Rocky Jones to score the Stock V8 feature win. Robert Crowe followed in third, with Paul Moore in fourth and Shannon Duck in fifth.
J.J. Garrett took the win in the Stock Four feature, with Jeffrey Lord in second, Brent Couch in third, Dustin Bales in fourth and Elliot Brayboy in fifth.
Kalen Holmes came out on top of a heated battle with North West to take the victory in the Front Wheel Drive feature. Joel Powell, Sr. finished in third, with Dillon Christian in fourth and Stacy Foster in fifth.
The National Vintage Racing Association also competed at Hartwell Speedway on Saturday night, with Gary Smith taking the Open Wheel win, while Eric Rogers was victorious in the Late Model division.
