Saturday night’s Young Guns feature at Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway came down to a game of inches.
Tanner Nation edged out Hoyt Partain by less than a foot at the finish line to record the victory at the 3/8-mile clay raceway.
Nation, from Oglethorpe, Georgia, jumped out to the early lead over Partain, and held the lead throughout the feature. But Partain was never far behind, as he looked for an opportunity to challenge for the top spot.
That opportunity came with less than half a lap to go, when Nation’s car pushed high in turn three, opening the door for Partain to power to the inside.
Partain pulled alongside Nation as the duo raced off of the fourth turn, turning the finish into a drag race to the finish line. Nation would beat Partain there by a matter of inches to record the victory.
Partain had to settle for second, with Alysa Goldsmith in third and Cole McKeehan in fourth.
In other action, Shun Thomas swept the weekend with a win in the Hobby feature. Thomas, who had won the night before at nearby Lavonia Speedway, started the race from the pole, but had to battle Shane Yarbrough for the top spot on the opening lap. Thomas would secure the lead, and went on to take the victory over Nick Carter.
Shane Yarbrough finished in third, with Clay Thompson in fourth and Alex Yarbrough in fifth.
Will Harris led wire-to-wire en route to the victory in the Limited Late Model feature. Grant Jordan, Eric Veal, Chris Segars and Tim Jones rounded out the top five.
Adam Partain scored the victory in the Crate Late Model feature, with Parker Herring in second, Cody Pritchett in third and Jimmy Mason in fourth.
Kyle Gordon edged out Johnny Pilgrim to take the win in the Modified Street feature. Thomas Segars finished in third, followed by Ty Nalley in fourth and Smokey Roberts in fifth.
Rocky Jones took top honors in the Stock V8 feature, with Bradlee Jones second, Evan Brown third, Paul Moore fourth and Robert Crowe fifth.
Chris McKeehan was the winner in the Open Wheel Modified feature. Dwayne McCannon finished second, with Matthew Wall third.
Jeffery Lord used a three-wide pass on the drop of the green flag to surge to the lead, and went unchallenged the rest of the way en route to the Stock Four feature win. Daniel Booth came home in second, followed by Brent Couth in third, Bubba Nation in fourth and Bobby Shelton in fifth.
Kalen Holmes held off a hard charge from North West to take the win in the Front Wheel Drive feature. Joel Powell, Sr. finished third, with Alex Powell fourth and Danny Tollison fifth.
