Earlier this season, Paul Moore scored his first Stock V8 feature win at Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway.
Since then, he has been trying to add a second piece of Hartwell hardware to his trophy case.
On Saturday night, the Pendergrass, Georgia driver finally was able to do it – but it did not come easy.
Moore started from the pole, and charged out to the early lead. Behind him, Bradlee Jones and Cal Moon raced side-by-side for second.
Moon came out on top of the battle for second, and soon had Moore in his crosshairs. Through the halfway point of the 15-lap feature, Moon looked time and again for a route around the leader.
With just a few laps left, Moon finally got the shot he was looking for, when Moore slipped high in turn two. Moon drove to the inside, with the lead duo making contact as they race down the backstretch. Moon cleared Moore for the lead before reaching turn three.
But two turns later, Moon’s car slipped out from under him as he tried to power off of the fourth turn. He was able to hang on to the car, but that allowed Moore to retake the lead before reaching the flagstand.
Over the closing laps, Moon worked to close again on the leader. With the white flag in the air, Moon tried again to take the point, only to be held off by Moore.
Moon got one last run coming off turn four to the checkered flag, racing hard to the inside of Moore’s car, getting as far as the door panel. Moore tagged the outside wall, sending him down into Moon’s car. Both were able to keep control, with Moore edging out Moon in a drag race to the checkered flag.
Bradlee Jones finished in third, with Jeremy Jones in fourth and Tyler Kennedy in fifth.
In other action, Ashley Poole got out front early and drove away to a dominating victory in the combined Limited/Crate Late Model feature. Eric Veal finished in second, followed by Grant Jordan in fourth and Tim Jones in fifth.
Shane Yarbrough drove to the win in the Hobby feature, with Alex Yarbrough in second, Shun Thomas in third, Cody Hall in fourth and Nick Carter in fifth.
Thomas Segars was the winner in the Modified Street feature. Smokey Roberts, Johnny Pilgrim, Preston Strickland and Chase Burdette rounded out the top five.
Jeffery Lord held off Bubba Nation for the Stock Four feature win. Jacob Rhome followed in third, with Dustin Bales in fourth and Ryan Baker in fifth.
Justin Sorrow was running third with half a lap to go in the Front Wheel Drive feature, but saw the door to victory lane open when leader Randy Shaw and North West made contact while racing into turn four. Sorrow powered around both of them, beating West to the flagstand for the win. Shaw finished third, with Kalen Holmes in fourth and Joel Powell, Sr. in fifth.
Hartwell Speedway is slated to return to action on Saturday, September 15. Visit Hartwell-Speedway.com for more information.
