Jonathan Davenport and Scott Bloomquist both scored Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victories on the weekend.
Davenport, from Blairsville, Georgia, scored the win on Saturday night at Maryland’s Hagerstown Speedway, while Bloomquist went to victory land on Sunday night at Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway.
On Saturday night, Davenport drove away from the field to win the 37th Annual Stanley Schetrompf Classic at Hagerstown Speedway.
Davenport became the 11th different victor in eleven appearances by the series at the raceway.
Davenport withstood the challenges of defending track champion Kyle Lee and Bloomquist early on en route to his fourth series win of the year. Bloomquist held off numerous charges by young Tyler Bare, who was competing in only the third Super Late Model race of his career. Bare ultimately settled for third in his first career LOLMDS start.
“Man, all the credit goes to my crew,” said Davenport. “They are awesome. Jason and Tyler do a great job, and Kevin (Rumley) is back there working all the time. This was a new car last week, so we’ve got two wins in three races now. It’s definitely a good piece.
“Thanks to Lance Landers and Steve Martin of Crop Production Services for giving me this opportunity. I was definately getting tighter and tighter at the end. The track was taking a little bit of rubber especially through three and four. Thanks to all the fans for coming out tonight. This one’s for Big C (Carlton Lamm). Everybody is still thinking about his family. It’s great to win here.”
Tim McCreadie was fourth with Mason Zeigler completing the top five.
On Sunday night, Scott Bloomquist continued his hot-streak on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, winning the Rumble by the River at Port Royal Speedway.
Bloomquist took the lead on lap two and never looked back en route to his 88th career series victory.
Josh Richards fought back to finish in second with Earl Pearson, Jr. taking third, Tim McCreadie fourth and Darrell Lanigan fifth.
Jimmy Owens led the first lap until Bloomquist, who started fourth on the grid, wrestled the lead away from him on the second circuit. Owens maintained the second spot until a coil spring broke on lap 17, ending his night. McCreadie picked up the second spot as he and Richards then dueled it out for the runner-up position.
The final caution of the race bunched the field up with 2 laps remaining. Richards tried valiantly in the green-white-checker finish, but Bloomquist was just too strong as he held on for his first career win at Port Royal Speedway.
“We have run really well since Florida,” said Bloomquist. “Last weekend, we had a win and a second-place finish, and this weekend a second and a win. The car, the engine, the shocks, everything is working well.
“We had good rotation, it carried around the high-line tonight. The car could work low, the middle, or high. I tried to run up high in three and four because my momentum would be really good off the turn-4 corner. When we had to go to the bottom to pass lapped cars we could.”
