Devin Moran and Brandon Sheppard took World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series victories over the weekend in the Buckeye State.

Moran took the win on Friday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, while Sheppard was victorious at Orrville, Ohio’s Wayne County Speedway on Saturday.

On Friday night, Moran led all 50 laps en route to a home state victory at Atomic Speedway. Moran also set his first quick time of the season in qualifying and won his heat race, not to mention recording his first career series win.

“When I crossed the checker flag I was yelling in my helmet,” said Moran. “Everything fell in our favor tonight. We had the car right and that’s what it starts with. Then we got quick time, won our heat and drew a good pill. It’s been a picture perfect night here. It’s awesome to get our first win in Ohio on a night like this.”

“This is awesome,” said Devin’s father, Donnie Moran. “This is what we have worked towards for a long time and he’s finally come to his age here a little bit and got up on the wheel and got the job done tonight.”

Moran’s redraw placed him on the outside of pole sitter, Frank Heckenast, Jr. On the first lap Moran took the lead before creating an impressive 1.426-second gap between him and the rest of the field in only two laps time. With the help of lap traffic, Heckenast began to reel in Moran, but unfortunately due to mechanical issues he was forced to retire from the feature on lap 25.

From there, Moran went on to take the win, with Steve Casebolt in second, Brandon Sheppard in third, Rick Eckert in fourth and Chub Frank in fifth.

On Saturday night, Sheppard took the lead on lap 21 and went on to record his fourth series victory of the season at Wayne County Speedway.

“We’ve had a good car every time we’ve hit the track, we just haven’t had things go our way and that’s why it’s called racing and not winning” said Sheppard. “We couldn’t do this without all of our help and all of our sponsors.”

Friday night’s winner, Devin Moran, finished in second, followed by Chris Madden in third, Tyler Erb in fourth and Zebulon, Georgia’s Shane Clanton in fifth.

The series was slated to compete on Sunday at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia for the Earl Hill Memorial. But heavy rain over the weekend led track and series officials to cancel the event. A rescheduled date is expected to be announced in the near future.

Next up for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series is the Ray Varner 50 at Tennessee’s Tazewell Speedway on Friday, June 2, followed by the Billy Clanton Classic at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway on Saturday, June 3.
