Kenzie Ruston became the first woman to win a CRA Super Series Race, Colt James became a first time CRA winner in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour presented by GM Performance Parts series, three drivers broke the EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks track record and the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman and Vore’s Welding and Steel CRA FWD Compacts had second time winners, all in one weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, IN.
Boris Jurkovic lead over 60 laps of the SealWrap Repair Tape 100 presented by McGunegill Engine Performance dominating the CRA Super Series race surviving several restarts only to run out of fuel on the 96th lap. Kenzie Ruston had been dogging Jurkovic for many laps, never quite able to get to his bumper, but took over the lead and took the checkered flag. With her win Ruston became the first woman to win a CRA Super Series race, or any CRA late model division race, just one day after becoming the first woman to set fast time in any CRA division.
Peter Cozzolino had to start last (35th) after an accident during qualifying and working overnight to repair his car, he flew through the field to finish second, Daniel Hemric was third, Brian Campbell fourth and Chase Elliott overcame an ill handling car to finish fifth.
“I was chasing him (Boris Jurkovic) and thought I could catch him in those last few laps, but I did not know if I could pass. Getting to his bumper may have been all.” Ruston commented. “It is just awesome to be the first woman to win a CRA Super Series race, just awesome.”
Cozzolino took home the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award and one of the Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Awards for moving up 33 positions during the race after repairing the car overnight. Nate Caruth moved up 19 positions to take the second Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award.
The Team Construction Clean Sweep Award was not won for 19 races before the award was won for an incredible $1900 at Winchester on Labor Day. This time Ruston was the EDCO Welding Fast Qualifier and took the win to take home the award on the next race. She also took home the Ford Racing Award for winning with a Ford engine.
Jurkovic earned the VDL Fuel Systems Hot Lap of the Race Award for the fastest lap during the race. He also won the Kingen Interstate Express Halfway Leader Award and the Turn One Steering Lap Leader Award for leading the most laps.
Derrick Griffin was the Rookie of the Race finishing 11th on the lead lap. Bringing him closer to Scott Hantz and pulling ever so slightly away from Terry Fisher, Jr. in the championship race as the season winds down.
The CRA Super Series will be back in action on October 8 at the Berlin Raceway in a make-up date after the rain-out on September 24. For more information see www.craracing.net.
Starting on the pole Colt James ran out to a big lead on the field, had it erased twice due to cautions, lost the lead for two laps following one restart and went on to win the McGunegill Engine Performance 100 presented by JEGS.com in commanding fashion with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts. Brent Downey chased James lap after lap, never fast enough to catch him under green.
As the cars restarted on lap 62 Downey slipped past James to take the lead. He was unable to hold it as James blew back past Downey after two laps to retake the lead. On the 81st lap the leaders were caught in an accident taking out the second through fifth place cars just a lap after they restarted for the next to last restart.
Chad Finley slipped during qualifying and tagged the wall hard, causing him to start dead last on the field after working overnight to repair the car, he moved through the field to finish second. Eddie Hoffman and Erik Jones are running within a few points of each other for the Inaugural JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour presented by GM Performance Parts Championship chase, Hoffman finished third, Jones fourth and Jack Smith fifth.

“The car was a little loose early, but it got better through the race.” James commented. “I have to thank Brent Downey and everyone else for racing so clean on the restarts, these are great guys to race with.”
Jones took home the Keyser Manufacturing Fast Qualifier Award for the sixth time in the 2011 season. This helped him stretch his lead by a few points over Eddie Hoffman as they fight to the end of the season to be the first JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour presented by GM Performance Parts champion.
The Championship will be decided at the W&W Manufacturing/Pier-Mac Plastics 100 Presented by JEGS.com their last event of the year on October 15th at Winchester Speedway. Jones dominated most of the series first race at Winchester before a flat tire late in the race caused him to drop back.
Returning to the place where he won his first Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman in June, Damon Ecoff found he had not lost his touch as he dominated the field to win the Ecoff Motorsports Fall Brawl 40. Starting eighth Ecoff came through the field to take the lead on the 11th lap, passing a very hard running Jeff Lane who was racing the first of three races on the day.
As the laps wound down, Keith Sterkowitz and Lane fought for the second place as Lane out ran Jason Atkinson. Sterkowitz finished second, Lane third, Atkinson fourth and Charlie Hanna fifth.
“I knew we had a good car, but after I drew an eight for the invert I was not sure I could make it happen, but after we got through traffic so quick, I knew I win.” Ecoff stated. “I have to thank my family and my crew for helping so much.”
After setting second fast time Jeff Lane had to start in 11th position, but he did not stay there long as he moved to eighth on the first lap Top five on the second lap and took the lead on the 11th lap and never looked back as he went on to win his fourth EDCO Welding CRA Street Stock race of the year. New track record holder Dave Bice finished second after getting caught in traffic early despite inching up toward Lane a few laps he could not catch Lane. The race featured three wide racing as Lane passed cars in bunches and others tried to keep up. Bice finished second, Brian Hopkins third, Jason Thompson fourth and Josh Poore fifth.
“We kind of missed a little yesterday for qualifying, but the guys worked on it last night and got right for today.” Lane said. “Thanks to the guy upstairs for making this a nice cool day, it makes it a lot easier on an old man. And thanks to all the fans that came out, my crew and my family.”
Kyle Crump moved through traffic that was sometimes three wide to take the lead on the fifth lap of the caution free Vore’s Welding and Steel CRA FWD Compacts, Fall Brawl 20 presented by PGG Enterprises to get the win. Jeff Shelmadine worked his way to second, Greg Isbell third, Rick James fourth and Bobby Smith fifth.
The 40th Annual Winchester 400 Weekend will be the next race for the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour presented by GM Performance Parts, Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman, EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s Welding and Steel CRA FWD Compacts. The FWD Compacts will be racing on Friday, October 14 for their season championship. The Street Stocks and Sportsman will have special races on Friday with their season championships on Saturday, October 15 along with the championship for the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour peresented by GM Performance Parts.
