One point separate Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS and Duke Palasini of Leland, MS after Week 25 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action. The top two drivers in the West Region standings faced each other for the first time in the 2011 season on Saturday night at Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR.
McDuffie drove the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star to his 13th win of the season to net one point and bring his best 14-week season total to 798 points. Palasini finished second to net two points and close to within one point of McDuffie. Palasini has a best 14 week total of 797 points in the second spot with two weeks to go in the 2011 season.
A win this weekend or on October 1 for McDuffie would clinch the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Championship, and his second to go with his 2008 title. Both McDuffie and Palasini will be trying to net on 49s in the two remaining weeks, which means they both must win to net on their respective best 14-week totals.
A win this weekend for Palasini could tie McDuffie for the point lead, taking the championship to the final week of the season on October 1. If the two drivers end up in a tie at the end of the season, the tie-breaker will be number of wins, number of seconds, etc. Going into the last two weeks, McDuffie has 13 wins, and Palasini has 11 wins.
If McDuffie and Palasini tie with 798 points, McDuffie would win the tie-breaker 13 wins to 12 wins for Palasini. If they tie with 799 points, McDuffie would win the tie-breaker with 14 wins to 13 wins for Palasini. McDuffie can still earn a perfect score of 800 points with two more 50-point wins.
The most Palasini can earn is 799 points with two more 50-point wins. He can take the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Championship with two wins in the next two weeks if McDuffie fails to win in both weeks of competition.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region event choices over the next two weeks has Centerville Speedway in Centerville, AR and Drew County Speedway this Saturday night, and Drew County Speedway and Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS on October 1.
