The Championship battles in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region and the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region have tightened up after Week 24 competition.  The title hunt has now come down to two drivers in each Region with three weeks left in the West Region and two weeks left in the OMG East Region.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion and current point leader Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS took his 12th win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star to net on a 49 and bring his season total to 797 points.

Duke Palasini of Leland, MS drove the Palasini Farms Special to his 11th win of the season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS.  Palasini netted on a 47 to bring his best 14-week point total to 795, and close to within two points of McDuffie.

Both McDuffie and Palasini can net enough points in the three remaining weeks of the season to post a perfect score of 800 points which represent 14 50-points wins and 100 Regional Bonus points.  Competition at three West Region tracks will decide the championship in the next three weeks.

This Saturday night, West Region races are scheduled for Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR and Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS.  Drew County Speedway and Hattiesburg Motorsports Park are scheduled to be in action on September 24, and the final week of the season will have scheduled races at Drew County Speedway and Jackson Motor Speedway.

Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL continues to lead the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 793 points.  Elkins netted on a 48 on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA with a second-place finish in the second of two feature races.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL stayed in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region title hunt be netting on a 47 with a second-place finish in the first feature at New Senoia Raceway on Saturday night to bring his best 14-week point total to 788, five points behind Elkins.

With two more weeks of OMG East Region competition on the schedule, Elkins can earn as much as 795 points with two 50-point wins netting on two 49s.  Gauldin can earn up to 793 points with 50-point wins, as he can net on a 47 and a 48.  A win this Saturday night by Elkins would clinch the OMG East Region title.

In the event of a tie, number of wins followed by number seconds, thirds, etc. would be the tie-breaker.  The remaining NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region events on the 2011 schedule will be held at New Senoia Raceway and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.  Both tracks will be in action on September 17 and September 24.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 24 action, Travis Ashley of Batesville, AR picked up his 11th win of the season on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR driving the Bad Boy Mowers GRT.

Chandler Petty of Austin, AR drove the Whistle Stop Barbeque Rocket to his ninth win of the season on Saturday night at Drew County Speedway.  Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS did not report their Saturday night results, nor post them on the track web site.

Once the Saturday night results from Jackson Motor Speedway are reported, points will be awarded to the appropriate drivers, and the standings will be updated on the series web site.  The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point position scenarios for the third through tenth spots will be outlined in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 25 Preview on Thursday.

In NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Saturday night action at New Senoia Raceway, Trey White of Jenkinsburg, GA drove the Forest Park Sheet Metal Rocket to his first win of the season in the first feature race, and Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA grabbed his eighth win of the season in the second feature driving the PW Performance GRT.

Darda finished fourth in the first feature race, which took him out of contention for the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Championship hunt.  Darda remains in the third spot with 775 points and is still in the running for the second spot, as he can earn up to 790 points with two 50-point wins netting on a 41 and a 44.

The victory in the second feature race clinched at least a third-place finish in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region point standings for Darda.  Behind Darda, there are four drivers battling for the fourth spot in the OMG East Region standings.

Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA is fourth in the OMG East Region standings with 753 points, Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is fifth with 752 points, Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is sixth with 745 points, and Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL is seventh with 737 points.  Ogletree did not compete on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway and was eliminated from the title hunt, and left 25 Regional Bonus Points on the table.

Ryan King of Anniston, AL is eighth in the OMG East Region standings with 715 points, Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL is ninth with 689 points, and White’s victory moved him up to the tenth spot with 688 points.

White can challenge for the 8th spot in the OMG East Region standings.  A pair of 50-point wins would earn White 25 Regional Bonus Points and net on a pair of 41s to bring his best 14-week total to 731 points.

Three drivers outside the Top 10 of the OMG East Region standings, Maddox Mullinax of Birmingham, AL, Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL, and the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Champion Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL, can challenge for Top 10 points-fund paying spots with a pair of 50-point wins in final two weeks of the season.

Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR continues to lead the 2011 standings after Week 24 with wins from Ashley and Darda to bring their season win total to 54 victories.

The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL stayed within striking distance of earning their third straight title with a Week 24 win from McDuffie to being their season total to 50 victories.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV remains in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge standings with 18 wins after a pair of Week 24 wins from Petty and White.  Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth in the standings with one win.

Also participating in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first win of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
