Shaun Chastain powered his way to the early lead in Saturday night’s Super Late Model feature at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA, and went on to score the victory.
Chastain started third and took over the lead from Ronnie Johnson before the end of the second lap. Johnson fought back trying to retake the lead for several laps before Chastain retook the top spot for good. Chastain took a healthy lead going on to his first win of the year. Johnson remained in second followed by Jody Knowles in third, with T.J. Reaid in fourth and Jeff Smith in fifth.
It took a couple of restarts, but Don Jenkins took the lead in the Steel Head Late Model feature after qualifying on the pole to go on for his first win of the season. Alan Brewer followed several car lengths behind in second, with Jason Smith in third, Brian Jackson in fourth and Brian Rapp in fifth.
The most exciting finish of the night occurred in the Crate Late Model feature. In the initial laps, Zach Pilcher and Shane Smith drove side by side for the lead with Smith taking the point. Smith was looking to head to an easy victory while Hunter Jones made his way to the front. As the white flag flew, Jones made his move on the outside of Smith with the two going door to door down the backstretch.
Coming out of turn four, Smith’s front end broke loose, clipping Jones’ right rear, sending both cars spinning. That caused the field to take evasive action to avoid a major pileup. Hunter slid sideways across the finish line for the win with Justin Shipley and Zach Pilcher threaded their way thru the melee for second and third. Smith would spin across for fourth, while Jade Jones crossed in fifth.
Andy Morris led flag to flag for the Super Bomber feature win, holding off a hard charging Jerry Fowler for the victory. Justin Begley, Randall Powell and Willie Winsome rounded out the top five.
Landon Bagley took a big lead at the start of the Economy Bomber feature only to see Austin Smith come from dead last in the closing laps to take the win for the second week in a row. Bagley held on the second followed by Eric Hamby in third, Bryne Duren in fourth and Kyle Beavers in fifth.
Jamie Cross took the Pony Stock feature win for the second week in a row. Dan Bennett ran second, followed by Ronnie Faucett in third, Bo Jordan in fourth and John Lands in fifth.
It was Championship night for the Cruiser Division, as Anthony Pittman took his third feature win in a row. George Wilson, Jimmy Wilson, Tim Pittman, and the team of Jerry Barnes/Jerry Fowler rounded out the top five.
Dixie Speedway will play host to the OMG Sprint Nationals tour on Saturday night, May 23, while Rome Speedway will host the series on Sunday, May 24. For more info, visit DixieSpeedway.com.
