COEBURN, VA – Chad Finchum turned around on Saturday and swept both Late Model features Saturday night at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA, one night after sweeping both events at Kingsport Speedway in TN.
Kres VanDyke set fast time in qualifying to win the pole for the first 40-lap Wallace KIA LMSC feature.
VanDyke and Lance Gatlin battled side-by-side to open the race. Gatlin was able to work by VanDyke on lap three, but saw a caution come out after Kevin Wolfe and Jonathan Flemming spun.
Gatlin would take the lead back again on the restart, but would see another caution fly on lap seven when Wolfe and Mardy Roberts would tangled, sending Wolfe into the outside wall.
VanDyke would charge on the inside of Gatlin to take the lead on the restart. Caution would slow the field again on lap 20 when Terry Stone’s brakes failed entering turn three, sending him into Jenna Wagner.
On the restart, Finchum would power from the inside lane and pull into the lead. Through the remaining 20 laps, Finchum would pull away and claim the victory. VanDyke finished in second, with Ryan Stiltner in third, Gatlin in fourth and Brian Blevins in fifth.
After an invert of four positions, Lance Gatlin and Stiltner brought the field to green for the second Late Model feature. Gatlin charged hard on the start to take over the lead.
On lap seven, Finchum would move into second-place and begin to work on Gatlin for the lead. Finchum would race to the outside of Gatlin and take over the lead on the 10th circuit. In dominating fashion, Finchum would drive to the win, marking his eighth victory season at Lonesome Pine Raceway. Thomas Beane finished in second, with Gatlin in third, VanDyke in fourth and Stiltner in fifth.
Jared Broadbent started on point for the 20-lap Street Stock feature. Kirby Gobble powered from third-place and took Broadbent and Jamie Meadows three-wide down the backstretch to take the lead to complete the second lap. Gobble led all but one lap to claim his eighth Street Stock victory of the season.
Rocky Yates charged to the lead over David Brown to start the Mod-4 race. The caution would wave just five laps into the race for a spin on the backstretch. Yates would take over the lead on the restart and pull away to claim the victory.
Jason Ketron and Jackie Jackson made up the front row for the Pure-4 race. Jason Ketron would pull to the lead as John Ketron raced his way into second-place. Jason Ketron would lead every lap of the race en route to his second win of the season at LPR.
Jackson Austin jumped to an early lead over Rusty Clendenin in the Rookie Pure-4 feature. The caution would wave on lap four for debris in turn four. Jeter would again take the lead on the restart. Only two laps later, the caution would wave when Craig Phelps was turned head-on into the inside retaining wall.
With the green flag in the air once again, Jeter would hold off Clendenin for the lead. Clendenin would try to make a run in the closing laps, but Jeter would not be denied and go on to take the win.
Nasty Jones took the lead over Iggy Greer on the third lap of the Pure Street and Iron Warriors race. On lap 14, a spin on the frontstretch would bring out the caution. Back under green, Jones and Duke Bare would battle for the lead. The two would make contact and cut the left front tire on Bare’s machine; Bare would stop high in turn four and force the yellow flag out again.
Jones would again take the lead on the restart and go on to claim the win. Elvis McCoy took home the win in the Iron Warrior portion of the race.
