WOODSTOCK, GA – In last weeks Super Late Model feature at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA, Johnny Chastain found his way to Victory Lane. This week, it was brother Shawn Chastain’s turn as he grabbed the lead from pole sitter Jason Croft and led the way for his first win of the season at Dixie.
Croft settled in to second, spending most of the race holding off the challenges of Michael Page until the final lap, when Page made the move to second. Croft followed in third with Ricky Williams in fourth and Donald McIntosh in fifth.
Mark Page made his way to Victory Lane for the second time this season in the Crate Late Model feature holding off Hunter Jones, who came home in second. Matt Larson held on for third after starting on the pole, with of Zach Pilcher in fourth and Maddie Crane in fifth.
With many top five finishes this season in the Super Bomber races, Josh Pilcher finally found his way to Victory Lane Saturday night, holding off points leader Andy Morris for the win. Tom Watson came home third followed by Terry Vollrath in fourth and Daniel Brewer in fifth.
David Burtz won the Economy Bomber feature with Chuck Page following in second. Rob Johnson made his way to third after missing a ten car pileup on the front stretch that took out several front runners. Initial leader Landon Bagby made his way back for a fourth place finish after spinning on lap seven while in the lead. He was followed by Austin Smith in fifth. All drivers in the major wreck were uninjured.
Jeremy Millsaps beat Mitchell Pope to the line by a nose for the win in the Pony Stock feature. Pope was forced to settle for second ahead of Jeremy Ray, David Kirkland, and C.J. Dettmar.
It was a rare late night at Dixie Speedway Saturday as a rain shower in the late afternoon, and several major wrecks put the night’s events running right up to the midnight curfew, the features for the Steel Head Late Models and Cruisers to be postponed to August 30.
The USCS Sprint Car Series was also in action at Dixie Saturday night. For further information on their races see our earlier story here.
Dixie Speedway is back in action on Saturday for the Steel Head Late Model championship, along with a full racing program. Visit DixieSpeedway.com for more information.
