IRVINGTON, AL – Southern Super Series officials announced Tuesday that the series’ 2014 schedule will close with the Mobile International Speedway event on Saturday, September 20 in Irvington, AL. The Southern Super Series champion will be crowned following the 125-lap race, which closes out a Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship weekend that begins Friday, September 19 at Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway.
The 2014 season finale was scheduled to be held at Tennessee’s Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville on November 1. When Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville officials announced in mid-July that the event, the All American 400, would no longer be a Southern Super Series or Super Late Model event, series officials immediately began pursuing opportunities to replace the Nashville date. After exhausting all possibilities for adding a new season-ending event, it became apparent that ending the season with the regularly-scheduled September 20 date at Mobile was in the best interest of all parties involved.
“We spoke with current series track partners as well as with a few more facilities interested in bringing the Southern Super Series in at the end of our season, but there just wasn’t enough time to properly build, promote and host a race for these facilities,” said Dan Spence, Southern Super Series Director. “When Nashville pulled their date at the end of our schedule, it was a tough time for the series to put together a plan with another track to add a date at the end of their already-set schedules and promote the event properly.
“While we’re disappointed that we weren’t left enough time to fill in that date, we’re excited for the remaining events on the Southern Super Series schedule and it will be a thrilling chase for the championship to be settled at Mobile on September 20.”

Discussions with current SSS tracks are already underway to set the 2015 Southern Super Series schedule. Series officials also have begun discussions with new tracks that could be added to the 2015 schedule based on conversations held in recent weeks to find a replacement for the 2014 season finale.
“We are focused on an exciting finish to the 2014 season, but we’ve also got an eye towards continuing to build the Southern Super Series’ position as a top Super Late Model touring series in 2015,” added Spence. “We have already started working on the 2015 schedule and some enhancements to the series that could be huge benefits to the racers, fans, tracks and partners involved with the Southern Super Series.”
