During his career as a newsman, Jim Minter worked hard to make sure that racers were viewed as athletes in the pages of the newspapers he worked for.
On December 13, the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame will honor Minter for his contributions to racing as a journalist, as he will receive the Jimmy Mosteller Excellence In Motorsports Journalism Award.
The award, which was created to recognize achievements in motorsports journalism, along with supporting racing in the state of Georgia, is named in honor of Georgia racing Hall of Fame member Jimmy Mosteller, himself a lifelong supporter and promoter of motorsports in Georgia and around the southeast.
Minter joins Capt. Herb Emory (2012) as a recipient of the award.
Jim Minter began his journalism career as a writer for the University of Georgia’s Red and Black newspaper as a sportswriter. He would ultimately move his way to Atlanta, working for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. Eventually he would become the executive director of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 1971.

Minter will be honored as the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Driver of the Year at the 2013 Georgia Racing Hall of Fame induction banquet, the same night that Charles Barrett, Frank Christian, Huston Platt, Hank Blalock and Freddy Fryar will be inducted as members of the 2013 class of inductees.
The 2013 Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Induction banquet will be held on Dec. 13, 2013 at 6 pm at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, located inside the Dawsonville Municipal Complex in Dawsonville, Georgia.
