Despite rain coming in and canceling the rest of the race card at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL Saturday night, two drivers did get a chance to celebrate in victory lane, as Nick Hebrank scored the Outlaw Four win, while Thomas Pratt was victorious in the Open Wheel Modified feature.
The first feature of the night belonged to the Outlaw Fours. Billy Howard won the heat race early on while Hebrank and Megan Meyer started on the front row for the feature. When the green waved Hebrank quickly led the field into turn one and led the first lap. Hebrank had several drivers try to take the lead away until he sailed away and won the race without a caution. Jesse James Foster, Zach Amundsen, Billy Howard and Megan Meyer rounded out the top five.
Next up was the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds. Pratt won the heat race early on while Buzzie Reutimann and Austin Sanders made up the front row for the feature. When the green waved Reutimann and Sanders battled side by side in turn one in the middle groove, giving Pratt the low side. That free lane allowed him to go by both drivers coming out of turn two. Austin Sanders, Matt Miller and Buzzie Reutimann would all battle for positions, giving Pratt the opportunity to open his lead up over the rest of the field. In another caution free race, Pratt went on to win with Matt Miller, Austin Sanders, Buzzie Reutimann and Bobby Dixon rounding out the top five.
Next up were the Florida Mini Sprints. Under hot laps the rain began to fall and didn’t stop. The Florida Mini Sprints were sent to the pits to see if the rains would subside. After a 30 minute rain delay, race officials decided to cancel the rest of the night’s features as rain would continue to fall. The Mini Sprints will return for their feature event on October 19.
Late Models will be running double features next Saturday night. Winning the heats were Kyle Bronson and Josh Peacock. Winning the V8 Warriors heat races were Tommy Hill and Jeff Weaver and winning the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bomber heat races were Raymond Vann and John Moore. The V8 Warriors and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers make-up features will be announced at a later date.
ASA racing continues next weekend as the Late Models, East Bay Sprints, Street Stocks, V8 Warriors and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers all return for action. For further information, visit eastbayracewaypark.com.
