Keith Ross of Cannon, GA took a spectacular win in the Stock V8 feature at Hartwell Speedway in Hartwell, GA Saturday.
Ross started out his night by taking the win in his qualifying race, however during the race his car was displaying tell-tell signs of overheating. With an All Star Championship on the line, Ross immediately went to work on the car to see if he could get the problem under control before the main event. Ross decided to remove a radar fan from his truck and place it on the race car. With a 50-50 shot at winning the race Ross’s main objective was to keep his car in clean air.
At the drop of green in the feature, Ross pulled to the front, but several cautions throughout the race meant extra laps around the 3/8 mile clay oval, raising his engine temperatures even higher. With nothing but a wing and prayer Ross would hit the accelerator one last time and push his car to the limits for the remaining three laps. Jesse Thurmond who was running in second, was all over his rear bumper coming the checkered flag causing the fans to jump to their feet as Ross held him off for the win.
“We usually get one win a year and I am glad it was tonight for the extra money, now I got to get my truck back together so I can make it home,” said Ross in victory lane.
Thurmond finished in second, with Keith Teasley in third, Terry Brown in fourth, and Danny Murray in fifth.
