Shawn Chastain Scores Super Late Model Win At Dixie

The Chastain brothers, Shawn and Johnny of Murphy, NC made the trip to Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA Saturday night and put on quite a show for the fans in the Super Late Model feature, with Shawn coming away with the victory.

With both starting on the front row, Shawn took the initial lead as Johnny fell back into third behind Frank Ingram. It didn’t take but a couple laps before Johnny regained the second spot and chased down brother Shawn. The two raced each other either side by side or nose to tail the rest of the race, with Johnny passing for the lead on lap 14. He would hold off Shawn until they reached lapped traffic with four laps to go, when Shawn repassed his brother and went on to victory lane while leaving Johnny to settle for second. Tyler Millwood followed in third while Michael Page passed Jake Knowles in the closing laps for fourth.

Jason Smith got a straightaway lead on the competition in the Limited Late Model race and looked to be heading for an easy victory. With four laps left to go, Smith suddenly slowed with motor problems and pulled off the track. This handed the lead over to Mike McConnell who went on to take his fifth win of the year. Completing the top five were Jason Williams, Chuck Padgett, Don Jenkins and Chris Fennell.

The Crate Late Model Feature saw Hunter Jones hold off Meansville, GA’s Maddie Crane to take his second win of the year. Third thru fifth went to Doug Ludwig, Pete Cochran, and Jeff Dernell.

Kirk Atkins of Rome drove his Chrysler powered racer to victory lane in the Super Bomber Championship feature ahead of Richard Bagby, Kenny Taylor, Andy Morris, and Roy Patterson.

It looked as if the Economy Bomber would have a new winner Saturday until Shane Smith made his way around Rob Johnson with two laps to go to take his fourth win in a row. Dan Meadows was able to take advantage of Smith’s pass and also pass Johnson to finish second. Johnson held onto the third spot with David Burtz and David Beam completing the top five.

Shannon Etheridge and Jake Jones staged a two car race for the lead almost the entire distance of the Pony Stock feature before Jamie Cross mad his way into the mix in the closing laps. Cross made his way past Jones for second but was unable to challenge Etheridge for the lead. Etheridge took his fourth win of the season followed by Cross, Jones, Zack Sanders and Ronnie Faucett.

John Sexton took the win in the Cruiser feature while the Demo was won by Darrin Ray.
