He had to wait through two rain delays and hold off some of the stoutest dirt track competition in the southeast to do it, but William Thomas made his first Southern All Start Dirt Series victory a special one by winning the 14th annual Mike Head Jr. Memorial at Talladega Short Track in Talladega, AL Saturday night.
Thomas charged from an eighth place starting spot towards the front, passing pole sitter Bill Ogle Jr. with a move on the outside to sweep into the lead. From there, he never looked back, taking the victory in the 54 lap event.
Thomas pocketed $5,400 for the win, and shared victory lane with 2011 Georgia Racing Hall of Fame inductee Mike Head, Sr.
Tim Busha would come home second, with Ogle third, Brandon Kinzer fourth and Terry Smith fifth.
In other action, Adam Cummings scored the Sportsman feature win. Dustin Steward was second, with Bubba Lackey, Chris Blackburn and Michael Blakeney fifth.
