Johnny Chastain took the lead from Dale Thurman on lap two of the Super Late Model feature at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA on Saturday night, and never looked back as he went on to his first ever checkered flag at the famed Speedway.
As Chastain took a healthy lead, last weeks winner Austin Smith and Dale Thurman battled for second running side by side many laps until Smith clipped the wall and had to pull into the pit area. This left Thurman in second but he now had to contend with the likes of Jason Croft and Donald McIntosh.
Thurman gave way falling behind both drivers in the closing laps falling back into fourth at the finish. Croft went on to finish second followed by McIntosh. Frank Ingram held off Doug Stevens for fifth.
The Limited Late Models took to the track and staged a close but peaceful race that would see Scottie Pritchett take the win holding off a very strong Mike McConnell. Oliver Gentry came across in third with Alan Brewer behind in fourth, while Cass Fowler came from the rear to grab fifth.
Justin Shipley finally broke the ice in the Crate Late Model division as he grabbed his first win of the season. The win was not easy as he constantly had to hold off Mark Page the entire way forcing Page to settle for second, while newcomer Evan Bell brought his racer from the back to take third ahead of Hunter Jones and Maddie Crane.
Richard Bagby led the way in the Super Bomber feaeture taking the win ahead of Daniel Brewer, Kenny Taylor, Roy Pattreson, and Howard Martin.
Shane Smith inherited the win in the Econo Bomber after the apparent winner was DQ’d after being protested. This moved everyone up giving David burtz the second spot followed by Rob Johnson, Gooch Spriggs and Kyle Beavers to round out the top five positions
It was Championship night in the Pony Stock Division as Ellijay, GA’s Ronnie Faucett brought home his first Checkered flag of the season. Faucett held off stiff challenges from Jeremy Millsaps the entire distance while Shannon Etheridge spun and restarted in the back making it back to the third spot before the laps ran out. Zack Sanders made a last pass on John Land to take fourth.
It was family night in the Cruiser feature as George Wilson held off brother Jimmy for his second win of the season. Randy Ledford drove home i with third placec money followed by Buddy Edwards.
Next week, Dixie and Rome Speedway will be celebrating Independance day with a Fireworks display at both tracks on Saturday and Sunday nights with a Limited Late Model Chamionship Saturday and a Super Late Model Championship on Sunday night. For more info, visit dixiespeedway.com.
