Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA opened the gates for it 45th season Saturday night, with Tony Knowles coming away with the season opening Super Late Model feature victory.
The newlywed would start his night by taking fast time in qualifying. A spin of the invert wheel on the number two gave Luther Jenkins the pole for the feature start.
When the green flag flew, Jenkins took the point only to have Knowles go by for the lead on lap two. Jenkins chased Knowles the remainder of the race but never was able to mount a serious challenge, and had to settle for second. Meanwhile, a battle was staged with several position changes for the third through fifth place. When the checkers fell, Frank Ingram had passed Jake Knowles for third in the closing laps while Donald McIntosh clawed his way into a top five finish.
In other action, Cass Fowler looked to be heading for the win in the Limited Late Model feature as he took off and left the field behind. In the closing laps, Fowler suddenly found himself running beside Mike McConnell, who had steadily worked his way through the field. McConnell drove around Fowler and never looked back as he went on to victory lane, leaving Fowker settling for second. Alan Brewer brought his ride home in third followed by Mark Bunch and Chris Fennell.
In the Crate Late Model Feature, Michael Page took the feature win. It was a scramble for all other spots during he feature, and when the checkers fell, Henry Ward found himself in second followed by Craig Scott, Dustin Rogers, and division Rookie Justin Shipley.
Roy Patterson made short work of the Super bomber field and captured his first win of the new season. Andy Morris made his way to second place with Kenny Taylor close behind in third. Rounding out the top five were Blant Duke and Daniel Brewer.
