Joey Kelley has gone perfect so far in Front Wheel Drive action at Anderson Motor Speedway in Anderson, SC. Friday night’s feature win, his second in the first two races in the track’s 2013 season, netted Kelley a $500 bonus as part of the track’s Front Wheel Frenzy event.
Kelley led every lap of the race en route to the win. Chris Harvell pressured Kelley several times during the race but failed to get past him. Harvell finished second, with J.J. Williams in third, B.J. Davis in fourth, and C.J. Huitt in fifth.
In other action, Rick Kelly scored the win in the Super Renegade feature. James Johnson led the first 13 laps of the race before something broke on the front of the car, putting him out of action. Kelly took over the top position, leading the final two laps of the race to pick up his first career Super Renegade feature victory. Steve Kelly finished second, with David Whitaker third, James Johnson fourth, and Eddie Henderson fifth.
Steve Guthrie came home with the win in the Evergreen Renegade race. Guthrie led every lap of the race and was never challenged for the lead. Tommy Stokes finished second, with Blake Gregory, Shawn Campbell, and Kyle Ballew rounding out the top five.
Chad Campbell claimed the victory in the Mini Stock feature. Campbell led wire-to-wire for the win, which he dedicated in memory of his mother. Campbell’s mother passed away last season and he stated that this was the first win since her passing. B.J. Thrasher finished second, while David Darnell came home third, with Ryan Howard in fourth, and Brandon Segars in fifth.
Austin Northcutt was the winner in the B-M Modified division. Stanley Thompson grabbed the lead as soon as the green flag dropped on the race and pulled away from the field. But by lap six Alan Mitchell began to cut into Thompson’s advantage and was on his rear deck lid on lap eight when his motor let go. On lap 10 Thompson slipped up in turn four and Northcutt drove by him to take the lead. But on lap 12 Thompson regained the lead position and held it till the end of the race and received the checkered flag. After the race Thompson dedicated the victory in memory of his dad, who passed away last year.
Unfortunately, following the race Northcutt lodged a protest on Thompson’s car and Thompson refused to pull down. The official victory was awarded to Northcutt. Casey Tucker finished second. Tim Stokes finished third. Kelsey Roberts finished fourth. Bryce Malcolm finished fifth.
Jacob Schneider topped the field for the win in the Legends race. Rex Brown led the first two laps of the race before he relinquished the top spot to Randy Gunton. Gunton held the lead until lap four when he was passed by Schneider. Once out front Schneider led the remainder of the race and picked up his second victory in a row. Randy Gunton finished second. Rex Brown finished third. Phillip Young finished fourth. Kevin Ellison finished fifth.
