Richard Jones and family had reason to celebrate Saturday night, as Jones scored the 2012 Modified Street championship at Hartwell Speedway in Hartwell, GA.
Jones won the championship with a sixth place finish in the Modified Street feature as Hartwell Speedway closed out their 2012 points season. The top five of all seven divisions where recognized for their hard work and dedication to the as they mingled with the fans during an autograph session. These same drivers will be recognized once again at a banquet to be held the first week in December.
Meanwhile, as Jones scored the title, Larry Parham picked up the feature victory. John Teasley came home second, with Justin Dowell in third, Robert Varnes in fourth, and Mark Wilbanks in fifth.
In other action, Brandon Haley made his way to victory lane with a win in the Limited Late Model feature. David McCoy finished second, with Brant Carey in third, Shane Yarbrough fourth, and Donnie Barrett in fifth.
Jimmy Feltman scored the victory in the FASTRAK Late Model feature, beating out David McCoy for the win. Travis Knight came home third, with Frankie Beard in fourth, and Danny Sanders in fifth.
In Stock V8 action, Otis Fleeman was first to the checkered flag, with Jess Thurmond, Terry Brown, April Backer, and Joseph Teasley rounding out the top five.
Cy Strickland outran 22 competitors to win the Stock Four Cylinder feature. Chris Wilson came home second, with Jeffrey Lord in third, Ashley Poole in fourth, and Dustin Bales in fifth.
Drew Collins took home the Young Guns feature win, with Mason Tucker in second. Taylor Holcomb third, Jessica Still fourth, and Travis Hubbard in fifth.
Joey Powell, Sr. scored the Up Front feature win. Corey Price finished second, followed by Michael Mosley, Steven Powell, and Andrew Smith.
Hartwell Speedway will run the last race of the season this Saturday, Oct. 6, where not only will there be seven divisions of ground pounding action but also a powder puff race, where the ladies will show off their mad driving skills. Visit www.hartwell-speedway.com for more info.
