Toby Porter didn’t have any worries winning his 12th race of this season at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC, and increasing his track championship points lead, while Marty Ward, who is second in points, was involved in a racing accident with only three laps remaining.
Ward and Will Burns, who was running third, came together to bring out the caution, and both cars went to the rear of the field for the restart.
Porter jumped to the front, again, on the restart with three laps remaining and Will Burns came up to take second. Scott Bishop was third and Marty Ward was fourth. Bob Root was the fifth place finisher.
After positng a terrific qualifying time, Porter said he needed to thank his sponsors for a well-handling race car.
In the Trucks main event to kick off the evening, Jamie Altop started at the back and stormed to the front in one lap, and then stretched his lead as the trucks behind him battled for position.
As laps wore down, Jamie Altop increased his lead over Ryan Walker and Michael Altop.
As Jamie Altop went to Victory Lane, Ryan Walker took second. Gene Barnett was credited with third place, and Michael Altop was fourth.
Walker has already clinched the Truck division points championship.
Kyle Ballew added another win to his impressive string in the Renegade race, starting in the rear due to last week’s win and moving into the front almost as soon as the green flag fell. Travis Cox was second, and Brandon Fox took third. Brad Burns was fourth and Scott Tyner was fifth.
David Rader made his way to the front at the mid-point race in the Street Stock division while Tyler Gibson, who led the race in the early going, has mechanical problems on the last lap.
Brandon Segars finished second, with Freddy Hale, Jr. third. Furman Craft was fourth and Gibson was fifth.
Dale “Moonpie” Walker got past Bryan Davis in the four turn of the last lap to win the Charger main event and Andy Norris finished third. James Johnson took fourth and Mike Mote was fifth.
The start of the Four Cylinder main event was the most exciting green flag of the evening, as Clark Harris, in the middle of the pack, actually turned his car completely over and continued around the track.
Although Harris made the lap, he went to the pits for a medical check, and rain prevented the race from being restarted.
Tommy Davis, Jr. was declared the winner, with Ray Mullinax second. Danny Heil was third, with Buck Simmons fourth and C.J. Huff fifth.
On Aug. 24, Greenville-Pickens will hold a Friday night program prior to the beginning of the South Carolina Upper State Fair. For more info, visit www.greenvillepickens.com.
