When the engines fire for the Pro Late Model feature at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA on Saturday night, it will be with a special purpose.
That’s when the venerable North Georgia short track will pay honor to one of its biggest supporters over the years, as GMP plays host to the inaugural Larry Fleeman Memorial.
Larry Fleeman, who passed away in May, was a long time supporter of racing and of the track now known as Gresham Motorsports Park. His son, Russell Fleeman, was a track champion at the speedway, and was the 2008 winner of the track’s signature event, the World Crown 300. Russell made his return to victory lane at Gresham Motorsports Park earlier this year with a win in the Outlaw Late Models, and is expected to be a strong contender Saturday night.
Fleeman’s granddaughter, Amber, has been working her way up through the racing ranks, competing in Bandoleros and Legends Cars.

“This race means a lot to me,” said Russell Fleeman. “Daddy and I enjoyed racing all of my life and it is something that we did together. Not only is racing something that I enjoy, but it’s also something that holds many memories for me with my dad. It’s nice to have those that have continued to be apart and keep his memory alive, especially because he loved racing so much and was so supportive of GMP.”
While the 100-lap Pro Late Model feature will be the big part of the evening, a full slate of racing events will actually make up the Larry Fleeman Memorial, including Mini-Stocks, Sportsman/Renegades, Trucks, and Outlaw Late Models.
