Toby Porter Wins From The Pole At Greenville-Pickens

Toby Porter, after having the track thoroughly inspect his car just a week ago, came back to Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC wide open Saturday night. Porter was the top qualifier and started on the inside pole.

But Porter didn’t show his domination the way he has all season. The current points leader seemed to spin his tires as the race started, and Marty Ward quickly took the race lead.

That put Porter second and Anthony Anders third.

It wasn’t until lap 25 that Toby worked his way around Ward. Anders also got around Ward, and stayed second until the white flag lap, when Ward went back by for second.

“It appeared Marty got a little tight,” Porter said in victory lane. “I’ve got an awful good race car right now and it seems we can do no wrong.”

With Porter winning again, he padded his points lead over Ward, and Anders, the current leader in South Carolina points, was third. Bob Root was fourth, and Joey Collins finished fifth.

Jamie Altom started on the outside pole in the Truck main event. He jumped out front when the green flag fell, but took the lead and jumped inside before the cars reached the second turn. From there it was Altop out front for every lap to win the Truck main event.

Ryan Walker was second for the whole race, and Tim Lollis was third despite losing power for a portion of one lap during the race. Gene Burnett was fourth and Michael Altop was fifth.

Andy Norris took his second win of the season in the Charger division, ending weeks of mechanical or handling problems. Mike Mote was second, and Dale Walkere was third. James Johnson took fourth and Tim Crowe was fifth.

Travis Cox led from start to finish in the Renegade main, while Kyle Ballew had to work his way up to second. Ballew had worked his way to fourth, when the two cars in front of him appeared to get out of shape. Ballew ducked to the inside and came out of the fourth turn in second.

Bobby Emory was third, with Matt Anders fourth and Daniel Jameson was fifth.

Freddy Hale, Jr. grabbed the Street Stock main lead early and stayed right there for the win. David Rader was second, with Tyler Gibson third. Kirk Gibson was fourth and Mitch Barrett fifth.

Ray Mullinax had little trouble in the Four Cylinder class, as his closest competition early, Tommy Davis, Jr., had his hood fly up coming out of the fourth turn. Davis figured out how to back up and slam his hood, but had to restart at the rear of the field. He did work his way back to fourth, but could not catch Mullinax, Don Tavernia, who finished second, and Joshua Satterfield who was third. Steve Harris finished fifth.
