Tim Brown Builds Momentum At Bowman Gray Stadium

A large part of weekly racing is momentum – and that seems to be working in Tim Brown’s favor recently at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC.

Brown qualified on the pole and claimed the checkered in the first 25-lapper for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series on Saturday.

“I’m just riding this high. The car is running well right now. I just hope to keep taking advantage of it,” said Brown.

But Brown’s victory didn’t go uncontested: Danny Bohn of Huntersville made his presence known. In only his second year of Stadium racing, Bohn has proven to be a strong competitor – although he seems to always be the bridesmaid and never the bride.

Bohn hasn’t qualified on the pole, but he’s qualified second for both of the last two weeks. He hasn’t won this season, but he’s finished second four times.

“I think we’re due for a win,” said Bohn. “I told Tim before the race that I didn’t want to finish second again, but he’s been running here for a long time. He’s probably one of the best here. He doesn’t make mistakes, he’s a good driver, and he’s got good equipment. He’s tough to beat.”

Brown believes the momentum he has is here to stay for a while.

“It’s the same car that we ran last year, but we revamped some stuff over the winter on it that I didn’t like from last year – and it’s really brought it to life,” said Brown. “We’ve seemed to have hit on something right now that it likes, I like, and the racetrack likes. It’s showing up pretty good right now – I just hope we can keep it going like that.”

Lee Jeffreys of Wallburg finished in third, with Randy Butner of Pfafftown finishing the first race in fourth.

The “Madhouse Scramble” sent John Smith of Mount Airy to the pole for the start of the second race. Points leader Jason Myers of Walnut Cove started on the outside front row.

As the two cars slammed the gas heading towards the green, Smith was able to maintain his dominant position and hold the lead.

“They made some changes to the car – I don’t even know what they changed,” said Smith. “They told me it was going to be good – and the car was really good.”

Jason Myers fell back after being caught on the outside row, allowing Ronnie Clifton of Walkertown to move up to second. But Clifton couldn’t gain any ground on Smith.

John Smith took the checkered – his second win of the season. Clifton finished in second, with Dean Ward of Winston-Salem taking third.

In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, Zack Clifton of Walkertown brought home the win in the first 20-lapper. Clifton was able to defend the lead against heavy pressures from Bobby Reed of Clemmons, who ended up finishing second.  Kenny Bost of Lexington won the second 20-lap race, with Ryan Robertson coming in second.

Tim Vaden of Kernersville powered ahead to claim victory in the 20-lapper for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. David Sumner of Trinity and K.J. Stimpson of Lewisville finished second and third.

In the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series, Charlie Curry of Lexington and Tyler Burke of Winston-Salem each won a 15-lapper.

Bowman Gray Stadium is back in action on Saturday, June 30, for G-OIL Night presented b the Winston-Salem Journal, featuring twin 50-lap Modified races and a 60-lap Sportsman feature, along with action in the Street Stock and Stadium Stock divisions.  Visit BowmanGrayRacing.com for more info.
