Toby Porter’s race day was a work day Saturday night at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC. Early in the afternoon, during practice, Porter blew his engine. The race team headed for the shop, where they replaced the bad engine and returned to the track in time to make the main event.
When the green flag flew to start the 40-lap main event, defending track champion Randy Porter was out front, with Marty Ward second and Toby Porter third. The top three ran off and hid from the rest of the field, and 10-laps into the race Toby managed to get by Ward, for second place.
“My crew worked hard today,” Toby said in victory lane. He managed to get by Randy Porter for first.
After that, the race was for second, with Randy Porter and Ward swapping the position several times. Randy Porter held on for the position.
Greg Welborn finished fourth and Tasha Kummer was fifth.
Sam Staggs, Bob Root and Jamie Altop completed the field.
Jamie Altop went from worst to first in the truck division, starting at the rear of the field due to winning last week, and taking only a couple of laps to take the point.
Altop praised the men who set up his truck, saying it drove so well, “anybody could drive it.’”
Tim Lollis was second, with Ryan Walker in third. Gene Burnett and Michael Altop rounded out the top five.
Matt Anders started on the front row and jumped out front early to take the win in the Renegades race, as Travis Cox finished second. Kyle Ballew was third, with Scott Tyner fourth and Brad Burns fifth.
Mark Gibson took the win in the Street Stock main, as David Rader was second. Dylan Crowe finished third, as Freddy Hale, Jr. was fourth. Tyler Gibson took fifth.
Chuckie Greer won in the wreck-filled Charger main event, as nine cars started the race, four were involved in a first-lap crash, and restarts were the order of business. It was TCI to the front, as both Greer and Tim Crowe drive TCI cars. Late in the race, Zach Pressley was running second when what appeared to be a flat tire forced him into the wall between the third and fourth turns.
With Greer winning and Crowe in second, Bryan Davis was third and Dale Walker finished fourth. Mike Mote was fifth.
Tommy Davis Jr. worked his way to first in the four cylinder main, and didn’t let a late-lap sideswipe with a slow car keep him from the checkered flag. It seemed Davis’ car had a tire going down, after the altercation but held on to take win.
Ray Mullinax was second, with Buck Simmons, last week’s winner, coming in third. Danny Heil was fourth and Newman Presnell was fifth.
