Michael House took the lead with four laps left in Saturday night’s 100-lap Pro Late Model feature at Tennessee’s Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, and went on to collect his first feature win of the 2020 season.
The Murfreesboro, Tennessee racer moved to the point when Michael Bolden got loose in turns one and two, and went on to the victory in what proved to be a drama filled feature on the high banked, high speed 5/8-mile raceway.
It started out calmly enough, with Mason Mingus pacing the event. It all changed on lap 83, when Mingus made contact with the lapped car of Mike Murray. That sent Murray’s car spinning down the front stretch to bring out the caution.
On the ensuing restart, Mingus and Dylan Fetcho were locked in a battle for the top spot, with Cole Williams and Hunter Wright directly behind them. With eight laps to go, Fetcho got loose coming off the fourth turn, opening the door for Williams on the inside. Entering turn one, Williams’ car got loose under Fetcho, sending both cars up the track, with Fetcho spinning to bring out the caution.
Because the contact from Williams turned Fetcho around, both drivers were sent to the rear of the field by race officials.
On the restart, Mingus’ car got loose under Wright at the exit of turn two, which opened the door for Christopher Tullis down the back stretch. Mingus and Wright made contact halfway down the straightaway and Tullis took advantage with a massive run going into turn three. That set up a three-wide battle for the lead in turn three. Mingus and Tullis made contact and slid up the track, gathering up Wright in the melee and bringing out another caution flag.
That moved Howie DiSavino to the point, with Michael Bolden alongside. Michael Bolden moved to the lead, but a slip on lap 96 handed the point to House, who went on to score the win.
Michael Bolden finished in second, while Williams recovered for third. Fetcho came home in fourth, with William Hale in fifth.
DiSavino, Brittany Zamora, Chase Johnson, Daniel Bolden and Bryson Shaffer rounded out the top 10.
With Wright’s crash, the Pro Late Model Points battle is now mathematically between Williams and Fetcho with one race remaining during the upcoming All American 400 weekend. Williams unofficially has the advantage by just four points after Saturday night’s races.
In other action, Troy Hall won the Whelen Super Trucks battle on Saturday night, but it was Tanner Arms winning the war.
Hall picked up the feature, while Arms finished second. That was good enough for the Greenbrier, Tennessee racer to take home the division championship for 2020. That denied Arms’ future father-in-law, John Burns, his second straight division track championship.
In the division season finale, Hall battled with Nicholas Formosa on the drop of the green flag, while Arms and Burns battled for third.
One single truck spin and a red flag slowed the race. The red flag came out after Larry Deal and Gene Albert crashed hard on the backstretch. Both drivers escaped injury.
Hall went on to score the win, with Arms in second, Bobby Terry in third, Burns in fourth and Philip Hall in fifth.
On the 1/4-mile, tempers flared and Limited Late Model points battle in a near dead heat between Kevin Rollins and Jeff Belt heading into the final weekend. Jonathan Dishman picked up his first win of the season, ahead of Rollins in second and Belt in third, as the two exchanged contact on the track and pleasantries after the race. Jeremy Burns followed in fourth, with Richard Hargrove in fifth.
Unofficially, Belt takes a one-point lead into the championship weekend.
The Pure Stock feature was drama filled as well, when Travis Ryman, who crossed the line first, was disqualified in post race tech inspection. That moved Dylan Jones to the unofficial win, with points leader Phillip McCord second and Joshua Hood third.
Following an opening lap flip on the backstretch by Jesse Litchford, the Pest Doctor Front Runners feature ran a mostly clean 25 laps. Matt Hamlett drove to the win, with Daniel Harper second, Josh Harrell third, Josh Garvin fourth and Tony Gann fifth.
Carl Porter, Jr. scored his fourth Street Stocks feature win of the season, with Larry Cunningham in second, Brian Frazier in third, Joshua Pierce in fourth and Jason Moody in fifth.
Justin Maxwell took the win in the BH Holmes Construction Legends feature, with Bryson Shaffer, Dylan Fetcho, Austin Farr and Boston Oliver rounding out the top five.
Taylor Corum edged out Austin Harrison for the win in the Dye Hard Hair Salon Bandoleros feature, with Gavon Veach rounding out the podium.
All race results are unofficial until certified by race officials.
