Erb, Owens Win In LOLMDS Holiday Weekend Action

Tyler Erb and Jimmy Owens both made trips to victory lane in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action over the holiday weekend.

Erb was the winner on Friday night at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio, while Owens raced to the victory on July 4 at Ohio’s Portsmouth Raceway Park.

On Friday night, Erb earned his first series win of 2020 at Muskingum County Speedway.

Erb took the lead from Blairsville, Georgia’s Jonathan Davenport on lap 44 and withstood a caution flag with two laps to go for the victory.

He becomes the 12th different winner this year on the series tour. Devin Moran finished in second followed by Davenport in third, Tyler Carpenter in fourth and Hudson O’Neal in fifth.

“I want to thank all of my crew. This deal is tough, it’s not easy,” said the 23-year-old Texas native. “In all honestly, I think we have had a better year as far as being consistent than last year. We are going to keep digging, we want to get that orange spoiler before the end of the year.”

Jimmy Owens, Steve Casebolt, Tanner English, Billy Moyer, Jr., and Kyle Bronson rounded out the top 10.

On Saturday night, Jimmy Owens outdueled Jonathan Davenport over the last 14 laps of at Portsmouth Raceway Park to scored the victory.

The win was Owens’ fifth out of the last six series events, and marked his 70th career series victory.

The last 14 laps was a duel for the lead between Owens and Davenport. The two former series champions went tooth-and-nail for the win as the race came down to the checkers. Owens’ margin of victory over Davenport was just .733 seconds at the finish.

Billy Moyer, Jr. finished in third, Kyle Bronson in fourth, and Tim McCreadie in fifth.

“The racetrack was really good tonight. This is the smoothest and the raciest the track has been,” said the Newport, Tennessee native. “We have had some really good shows here in the past, but tonight is probably the best considering how it worked out for us. I want to thank Leon, Becky, and Derek Ramirez this car has been phenomenal in the last year. Tonight was a great night for this team.”

Devin Moran, Tanner English, Shanon Buckingham, Steve Casebolt and Colten Burdette rounded out the top 10.
