It was an evening of firsts at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia on Saturday night.
For the first time in its history, the track opened up in June instead of much earlier, and also for the first time no fans allowed to be in the grandstands due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was also a night of first for several drivers as they notched their very first win at the raceway. One of those was Austin Smith, who scored his first ever Super Late Model win at the track.
Payton Freeman took the pole for the Super Late Model feature and initially moved to a big lead. As the laps went by, Smith began to reel in Freeman, especially as the leaders began working through lapped traffic.
Smith went to the high side and passed for the lead holding, the top spot for the remainder of the feature en route to the win. Freeman was sidelined with mechanical problems leaving Shawn Chastain in second. Justin Shipley finished in third, with Jason Croft in fourth and Will Roland in fifth.
In other action, Landon Bagby finally got the monkey off his back, as he fended off Oliver Gentry for his first Steelhead Late Model feature win since 2018. Gentry managed to get along side of Bagby a couple of times but ended up settling for second. Justin Owens finished in third, with Dale Thurman in fourth and Andy Morris in fifth.
In the 602 Sportsman feature, Blant Duke took the lead from polesitter Jason Deal, and went on to take his very first Dixie Speedway win. Deal fell back to third in the closing laps as Ahnna Parkhurst passed him for second. Kyle Cochran and John Harrison rounded out the top five.
Saturday night saw the debut of the new Open Wheel Modified division at Dixie, with Justin Wakefield scoring the win over Mike McConnell
Larry Higgins outran a 30 car field of 602 Sportsman drivers for his first ever win at Dixie. Spencer Singleton followed in second, with Sawyer Tinker in third, Chris Hough in fourth and Rob Johnson in fifth.
Jeremy Williams led flag-to-flag for the Economy Bomber feature win ahead of Eric Hamby in second, Dylan Armstrong in third, James Swanger in fourth and Cody Newton in fifth.
Jason Young was the winner in the Street Stinger feature. Kenny Clark came home in second, followed by Rick Ricks in third, James Drummond in fourth and Jonathan Nelson in fifth.
