Michal Page made the trip to Eastaboga, Alabama on Saturday night pay off with a win in the second annual Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series Governor’s Cup at Talladega Short Track.
It’s the second straight event victory for the Douglasville, Georgia racer, who pocketed a cool $10,000 payday.
Page started the feature from third, and worked his way forward. After battling for several laps with pole sitter Dallas Cooper, he finally made the pass for the lead.
Page then came under fire from Ashton Winger, who made the pass to take the lead. But mechanical issues struck Winger’s ride, sidelining him for the rest of the night.
Page next came under fire from Jason Hiett, who had closed on Page’s rear bumper before a caution came out.
On the restart, Hiett and Riley Hickman made contact as they battled for second, sending both into the front strech wall and triggering a multi-car crash that took several cars out of contention.
From there, Page then led the final nine laps to capture his the victory.
Aaron Ridley finished in second, with Dallas Cooper in third, Zach Leonhardi in fourth and Forrest Trent in fifth.
Austin Smith, David Breazeale, Eric Cooley, Cruz Skinner and Billy Franklin rounded out the top ten.
Up next, the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series heads for Georgia’s Senoia Raceway on August 24 for annual Michael Head, Jr. Memorial. Visit SASDirt.com for more information.
