After weeks of rainy, wet weather, Mother Nature finally cooperated with racers on Saturday night, as Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia celebrated its 50th anniversary.
It was the perfect night for hometown hero Jason Croft, as the Woodstock native led the 40 lap Super Late Model feature wire-to-wire to score the victory.
Tyler Millwood made his way into second in the early going and seemed to be gaining on the leader, especially as they race through lapped traffic. But Croft was not to be denied, as he powered under the checkered flag first. Millwood had ot settle for second, ahead of Austin Smith in third. Defending track Champion Justin Shipley came home in fourth, with Derek Ellis finishing in fifth.
The Steelhead Late Model feature would see Dalton Polston get his first win of the season. Poston led flag-to-flag en route to the victory. Behind him, Oliver Gentry and Tate McCullough swapped second and third several times before Gentry took over for good. Dale Thurman held off a strong Jacques Daniel to round out the top five.
T.J. Brittain took home the win in the Crate Late Model feature. Luther Jenkins made his way from a sixth starting spot to finish in second, with Logan Palmer third, Jake Pilgrim fourth, and Rodney Martin fifth.
Jonathan Martin scored his fourth straight 602 Sportsman feature victory. He is the only winner in the division so far this year. Taylor Cole gave chase but settled for second ahead of Nick May in third, Chris Hough in fourth, and Daniel Brewer in fifth.
Eric Hamby took his Chrysler powered Bomber car to his second feature win in a row. Jeremy Williams, Dylan Armstrong, Randy Smith and Daniel Floyd rounded out the top five.
Kenny Clark made his way to Victory Lane for the third time this season in the Street Stinger feature. Chris Bragg finished in second, with Rick Ricks in third, Casey Creighton in fourth and Jordan Tillery in fifth.
Darrin Ray was the last man standing in the Demolition Derby.
Earlier in the evening, Dixie Speedway owner & promoter Mickey Swims was honored by the Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame as a new inductee. Swims was inducted formally several weeks ago, but the Hall of Fame presented him with his inductee ring as a part of the raceway’s pre-race festivities.
Dixie Speedway returns to action on Saturday, May 25, as the raceway plays host to the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series. On Sunday, May 26, the series moves to Dixie’s sister raceway, Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia.
