Prior to Saturday night, it had been more than a year since Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway had hosted a stand alone Crate Late Model feature.
Throughout most of 2018, with car numbers falling below the minimum for the division, the competitors would run in a combination feature with the Limited Late Model division.
But some changes to the minimums and some hard work to bring more cars into the division brought a strong field of Crate Late Models back to Hartwell.
And Adam Partain held the measure of the competition, as drove to the victory after leading wire-to-wire in the feature.
The Hartwell, Georgia native started the night by scoring the pole in qualifying. From there, he went on to lead wire-to-wire en route to the victory in the 20-lap event.
Kenny Collins came home in second, with Dale Timms in third, Larry Timms in fourth and Brad Basey in fifth.
Kenny Collins would better that finishing position by one in the Limited Late Model feature, as he held off the previous week’s winner, Drew Collins, to score the $1,000 victory. Mason Tucker finished in third, with Will Harris in fourth and Tim Jones in fifth.
Cody Segars appeared to have the Hobby feature win in hand. After moving to the front, he was driving away from the field. But that came to an end when his engine detonated just a handful of laps from the finish.
That handed the lead to Crandall Turner, who drove to his second straight feature victory. Shun Thomas finished in second, with Shane Yarbrough in third, Austin Brumbelow in fourth and Joseph “Boo Man” Galloway in fifth.
Sterling Helm scored his third straight Modified Street feature, but it didn’t come without some drama.
Ty Nalley held the lead late in the going in the feature, as he and Helm battled lap after lap for the position. With a few laps to go, Nalley spun in turn four as the duo fought for the top spot.
Helm inherited the lead, and went on to the victory. Thomas Segars, Kyle Gordon, Shannon Price and Daniel Doster rounded out the top five.
Rocky Jones held off a hard charge from Evan Brown to score his first Stock V8 feature win of the season. Bradlee Jones finished third, with Paul Moore fourth and Chance Segars fifth.
Chris McKeehan scampered away to the Open Wheel Modified victory. Matthew Wall finished in second, with Ed Colley in third.
Matt Gilbert edged out Bubba Nation to score the Stock Four feature win. Brent Couch came home in third, with Jeffery Lord fourth and Joey Graham fifth.
Kholeman Graham drove to the win in the Young Guns feature, with Hoyt Partain in second and Cole McKeehan in third.
Randy Shaw recorded his first Front Wheel Drive feature win of the season, holding off a determined Joel Powell, Sr. for the victory. J.J. Sorrow was third, followed by Stacy Foster in fourth and James Robinson in fifth.
