Eric Wells picked up a $5,000 Independence Day holiday payday on Tuesday night, as he drove to the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series Firecracker 40 victory at Tennessee’s Tazewell Speedway.

It marks the second career series victory for the Hazard, Kentucky native,

Wells would pressure Brian Smith for the lead in the second half of the race, sweeping into the top spot on lap 20.

Wells would open up a comfortable advantage by lap 25 and would not be challenged the rest of the way en route to the win.

Smith finished in second, with David Payne in third, Chicky Barton in fourth and Clyde Overholt in fifth.

Matt Tharp, Jeff Neubert, Joey Standridge, Mitchell Childress and Mitchell Burke rounded out the top ten.

The next Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series event will be Saturday, August 18 at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia.
