Going into Saturday night’s Stock V8 feature at Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway, 2018 had been one largely of disappointment for Rocky Jones.
Several times over the past two months, Jones had come close to tasting victory, only to see it slip away. One week before, Jones had a commanding lead only to be sidelined by a mechanical issue.
But on Saturday night, it all came together for Jones, as he held off Shannon Duck to score the victory at the 3/8-mile clay raceway.
Paul Moore finished in third, with Nathan Bowen in fourth and Cord Crowe in fifth.
Another driver who finally broke into Hartwell’s victory lane in 2018 was Thomas Segars. After scoring several wins last year in the Modified Street division, Segars had been snake bit in competition so far this year.
That changed Saturday night, as Segars edged out David Archer for the win. Preston Strickland finished in third, with Chris Gable in fourth.
In other action, Ashley Poole powered to the lead in the combined Limited Late Model / Crate Late Model feature, and drove away to the victory. Eric Veal came home in second, followed by fast qualifier Dustin Mincey in third and Grant Jordan in fourth.
Shane Yarbrough held off Austin Brumbelow to take the Hobby feature win. Joe Yarbrough finished third, with Will Beard fourth and Jimmy Mason fifth.
Jeffery Lord drove to the Stock Four feature win, with Ryan Boles in second, Pete Whitley in third and Fred Young in fourth.
Kalen Holmes was the winner in the Up Front feature, with Andrew Smith, Jason Rickey, Joel Powell, Sr. and Daniel Whitehead rounding out the top five.
