Chris Ferguson, Brandon Overton, and Jimmy Owens all made trips to victory lane in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action over the weekend.

Ferguson recorded a home-state win on July 6 at North Carolina’s Fayetteville Motor Speedway, while Overton won at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina on July 7 and Owens was victorious at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee.

On Thursday night, Ferguson won set fast time, won his heat and led every lap en route to his first career series victory at Fayetteville Motor Speedway.

“Man, thank you all so much, thanks to the fans for coming out tonight,” the 27-year-old Mount Holly, North Carolina native said. “I wasn’t sure about passing (Tim) McCreadie, once I couldn’t get to his outside I just rode around there. I slowed my pace down there towards the end. It’s taken a lot of hard work and sweat to get here (to Victory Lane).

“I nearly won a Lucas Oil race at Cherokee back in ’09, but finished second or third. Hats off to my crew, my friends and family, and all my fans for sticking with us. There’s been a lot of ups and downs but they have always stuck with me.”

Gregg Satterlee; in his first ever appearance at the track, came home in second, with G.R. Smith third, Josh Richards fourth, and Steve Francis fifth.

On Friday night, it was a battle of Peach State drivers, as Evans, Georgia’s Brandon Overton passed Blairsville, Georgia’s Jonathan Davenport on lap 41, and went on to win his second career series event at Cherokee Speedway.

Overton rallied in the last 15 laps of the race to get the win, first winning out in a side-by-side duel with Scott Bloomquist, and then passing four cars in front of him on his way to victory lane.

In victory lane, Overton was grateful for the chance to drive for the Chip Stone and Randy Weaver owned Team.

“Chip Stone was coming down tonight, but he had a flat tire and Randy (Weaver) stayed at home tonight,” Overton said. “So, it was ironic we got to victory lane and our left rear tire was flat. Man, that was an exciting race. We went with a harder compound on the right rear than most. A lot of them went softer and for those that did it kind of brought them back to me in the last ten laps or so.”

Josh Richards, Jimmy Owens, Bloomquist, and Ross Bailes rounded out the top five.

On Saturday night, Tennessee native Jimmy Owens dominated to score the win in the Mountain Moonshine Classic at Tennesse’s Smoky Mountain Speedway.

Owens grabbed the lead at the start of the 60-lap main event from pole sitter Ray Cook and led all the way en route to the victory. Brandon Overton was looking for his second straight series win and charged from the eighth starting spot to finish second. Scott Bloomquist overtook Series point-leader, Josh Richards late in the race to finish third. Richards came home in fourth and Darrell Lanigan finished in fifth.

“Man, I can’t thank my crew enough, they have worked their tails off on this car,” Owens said. “We have been away from home the last week or two and we needed to get things sorted out. It’s good to know a lot of hard work has paid off. Thanks to Shannon and Jeff for making this car go.”

With a multitude of Owens’ fans on hand, the three-time series National Champion responded to their support.

“Without the fans we are nothing, they are what makes this sport great. We love them all and appreciate their support over the years.”
