He gave up the lead position near the half way mark of Saturday night’s main event at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, but South Carolina’s Chris Madden fought back to overtake Shane Clanton on the final lap to win the Saturday night’s Spring Nationals Series feature.

Clanton made Madden work for the $6,000 top prize, as Madden crossed only .013 seconds ahead of his pursuer.

“It’s hard to find places where you can race like that and this is one of them,” said Madden in victory lane. “That was definitely exciting for the fans, and it’s fun for us. We don’t never get to race like that and that was fun.”

“We raced side by side for so many laps without touching each other,” explained Clanton afterwards. “I had to try something at the end. Chris would have done the same thing.”

Madden and defending Senoia Raceway Super Late Model points champion, Clint Smith brought the field to the green flag, with Madden leading the first 29 laps before Clanton grabbed the lead while darting through lapped traffic on lap 30.

Clanton would hold the top position until the final lap, when Madden began to pressure him, moving to the low line on the race track. Madden made the last lap pass on Clanton to score the win ahead of Clanton. Tyler Millwood finished in third place finish, with Brandon Overton in fourth and Dawsonville, GA’s Donald McIntosh in fifth.
