Chris Madden made an unscheduled stop at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA pay off Saturday night, as he led all 50 laps en route to the Super Late Model season opening win in the Southeastern Classic.

The Gaffney, SC racer took charge early, as he qualified on the pole and would lead the field of 24 cars to the start.

As the green fell for the start of the feature, the caution came out before the field reached the backstretch after outside pole sitter Casey Roberts car didn’t go at the start. Roberts pulled in with mechanical issues while the race was restarted.

With Madden out front, the drivers following jockeyed for position throughout the race, with Shane Clanton finally taking over second after battling with Dale Thurman. Clanton at times seemed to be closing on Madden, but came several car lengths short settling for second when the checkered flag flew. T.J. Reaid made his way up to fourth and was able to take advantage of a restart on lap 35 to also get around Thurman for third. Thurman held on to a fourth place finish with Jake Knowles in fifth.

Dylan Ames, Tyler Millwood, Cody King, Austin Smith and Jason Croft rounded out the top ten.

In other action, the Steel Head Late Model feature would see the closest finish of the night. Austin Smith grabbed the lead from Dillon Tidmore and looked to be sailing towards his first feature win of the season. But Michael Page had other ideas, as he began to close in and nipped the win from Smith as the two crossed side-by-side at the finish line. Tidmore held on to third with Mike Bruner in fourth and Jimmy Price finishing in fifth.

Chip Brindle held off Tom Maddox for the Crate Late Model feature win. Mark Page, Matt Black and Logan Palmer rounded out the top five.

It looked to be Jerry Fowler’s night in the Super Bomber feature until Alan Brewer passed for the lead and went on to take the win. Fowler spent the first laps of the race side-by-side, trying to hold off Randall Powell as the two each lead laps. Powell looked to be making a move for the lead when he was clipped by a lapped car, sending him spinning in turn one. That ended his race for the win.

Fowler took the lead on the restart only to lose it to Brewer several laps later. Brewer went on to take the win followed by his youngest son, Daniel Brewer, in second. Fowler finished in third, with Michael Brewer in fourth and John Land in fifth.

Eric Hamby led wire-to-wire in the Economy Bomber feature to take the win. Seth Lacey came home in second, with Tony Ray third, Cody Czobat fourth and Taylor Cole in fifth.

Due to two rain delays, and several wrecks in other divisions, Dixie Speedway was unable to debut the new Stingers division due to the impending curfew. The Stingers will have double features on April 9 to make up for the loss of this race.

Dixie Speedway returns to action on Saturday, April 9, with the Spring Championships on tap for all divisions. For more information, visit DixieSpeedway.com.
