Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS, the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion, topped off a successful season with his 20th victory on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS driving The Strength Center Special. Week 27 action brought the 2015 to a close.
Arnold and the Top 10 drivers in the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings will be honored at the Annual NeSmith Racing Awards Banquet on January 23 at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA. Arnold will pick up check for $10,000 out of the $20,000 point fund.
For the season, Arnold had a perfect 14 week total of 700 points after 20 wins, 25 top five finishes and 28 top ten finishes in 34 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races during the 27-week season.
Mike Palasini, Jr. of Leland, MS will be the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship Runner-Up for the third straight season. Palasini had a best 14 week total of 694 points after eight wins and 17 top five finishes driving the MP Trucking Special.
Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL and Robbie Starnes of Livingston, TX ended the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season in a tie for third-place with 689 points. The 14-year-old Skinner won the tie-breaker with six 50-point wins to four 50-point wins for Starnes, who will be fourth in the final standings.
Skinner had seven wins, 16 top five finishes, and 21 top ten finishes in 26 races driving the Skinner’s Body Shop CVR. Skinner also leads the Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series points for NeSmith Late Model drivers 18 years of age and younger. Starnes had six wins, 22 top five finishes and 24 top ten finishes in 25 races driving the Lonestar Hydro Maintenance Special.
Neither Skinner nor Starnes were able to net any points in the final week of the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season. Skinner’s best finish for Week 27 was an eighth-place effort on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, and Starnes’ best finish was a fifth-place on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway.
Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS will finish fifth in the 2015 standings with a best 14 week total of 688 points after seven wins, 15 top five finishes and 20 top ten finishes in 25 races. Daspit finished third on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway driving the Billy Riels Racing Special to net three points.
Greg Fore of Greenville, MS will finish sixth in the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 684 points. In 22 races, Fore had five wins, 15 top five finishes, and 19 top ten finishes driving the Washington Body Shop Rocket.
Kevin Sitton of Baytown, TX made a late-season charge to end up in a tie for the seventh spot in the final 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings with Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS. Each driver had a best 14 week total of 677 points apiece. Sitton will claim the seventh spot winning the tie-breaker with nine 50 point wins to one 50-point win for Lee.
Sitton turned in nine wins, 14 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 16 races driving the Mirage Construction Special. Lee had one win, 20 top five finishes and 22 top ten finishes driving the Billy Riels Racing Special. Lee closed out the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season with a second-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to net two points.
Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL will finish ninth in the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 669 points after two wins, 17 top five finishes and 20 top ten finishes in 21 races driving the Three Trade Consultants Special. Joiner also leads the NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series point standings.
Cole Daffron of Pell City, AL rounds out the Top 10 in the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings in the tenth and last point fund-paying position with a best 14 week total of 657 points. In 19 races, the 17-year-old driver had 13 top five finishes and 16 top ten finishes driving the TSR Race Cars Warrior.
Daffron finished 21st on Friday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway and did not net any NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 27 points. Daffron is also currently second in the Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series point standings.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 27 action, Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL drove the Summit Resource Development Trak-Star to his fourth win of the season on Friday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway.
Shaw’s win was a big win for Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL, as it put them in a position to win the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Championship. Trak-Star Race Cars, Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV and four-time Chassis Champ GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR ended up in a tie, all with 14 wins on the season.
Going to the tie-breaker of second-place finishes gave Trak-Star Race Cars their fourth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers title. Trak-Star had 24 second-place finishes to 16 for GRT and nine for Rocket. CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN finished fourth with seven wins on the season, and Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN was fifth.
Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL took his first NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in the Billy Riels Racing Special. Adam Ray of Smithland, KY drove the Three Rivers Machine Special to the win on Saturday night at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN. Salina Speedway in Salina, KS was rained out on Friday night.
