Just 24 hours removed from a triumphant return to victory at his home track of 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL, Wayne Niedecken, Jr. made the short trip across the Mobile Bay to Mobile International Speedway on Saturday t sweep both Pro Late Model features at the Irvington, AL track.

After persistent showers cancelled qualifying, the lineup for the first race of the evening – a 20-lap sprint to the checkers – was set by points, which placed Niedecken on the pole.

At the drop of the green flag, the Gulf Coast racing veteran wasted no time taking off with the lead – a position that he would not relinquish for the remainder of the race.

While Niedecken motored around the track out front, eyes were on Steven Davis – who had to start at the rear since he had not acquired any points in the division leading in to Saturday night. Before two laps were in the books, Davis had already passed six cars. By lap 13, he pulled into the second position, but found himself one second behind leader, Niedecken.

Running out of time to catch Niedecken, Davis had to settle for runner-up honors as Niedecken cruised on to his fourth-consecutive win at MIS to continue his undefeated season at the half-mile speedway. Dustin Smith, Garrett Jones and Rick Crawford rounded out the top five finishers.

By virtue of winning the first race of the night’s doubleheader, Niedecken had to start the second race, a 30-lap event, from the rear of the field as an invert of the finishing order of the first race served as the starting lineup. Niedecken’s bid at another doubleheader sweep was aided after several cars elected to move to the rear of the field for the start, which ultimately placed him ninth in the lineup.

Considering his pace in the first race, many expected Niedecken to make a quick charge through the field when the green flag dropped, but such wasn’t the case. By the time the first caution flag of the race waved on lap six, he had only passed two cars and found himself seventh.

On the following restart, Niedecken passed multiple cars and then passed Jones six laps later to move into the second position. From there, he set his sights on defending division champion and race leader, Josh Bragg. With a strong run exiting turn 2, Niedecken emerged undisputed for the top spot as he entered the third turn.

Niedecken went on to score his second win of the night, and his fifth of the season at MIS. Jones finished in second, with Davis in third, Ryan Luza in fourth and Bragg in fifth.

Super Stock

A factor each time he unloads his silver No. 18 at Mobile, Dave Mader III continued the trend on Saturday night during the Super Stock division’s 25-lap feature.

Starting from the second position, the former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor wasted no time at the drop of the green flag—maneuvering his car to the outside lane in turn 4 to the take the lead on the first lap of the race. With a clear track ahead of him, the Irvington, AL native opened up 1.5-second lead over second-place running Dustin Knowles.

As the laps wound down, division championship leader Jason Johnson made a frantic charge to the front of the field as he passed Knowles for second and set his sights on Mader. Despite reducing Mader’s lead to less than a second, time ran out for Johnson who had to settle for a runner-up effort. The result, however, extended his lead in the point standings to 33 over Ramsey Whittington who finished fourth.

Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsmen

Leading in to Saturday night’s 25-lap feature for the Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsmen division, all eyes were on championship leader Lee “Red Dog” Reynolds who entered the night on a two-race winning streak.

Fourteen-year-old driver and division rookie Connor Okzresik, however, was determined to steal his thunder.

Starting from the pole, the teenager wasted no time at the drop of the green flag, as he opened up a sizeable lead. It was a position that he would not relinquish for the remainder of the race as he went on to score his second win of the season.

Reynolds had to settle for a runner-up finish when the green flag waved, with
Jay Jay Day in third, Michael Ledlow in fourth and Dayton Sidner in fifth.

Island Motors II Bombers

Robert Loper held off Matt Jackson in the closing laps to score his first Island Motors II Bombers victory at MIS.

Although he caught Loper in the closing laps, Jackson had to settle for a runner-up finish.
B.J. Leytham, Tommie Blocker and Derek “Kane” Long round out the top five finishers.

Racing returns to Mobile International Speedway on July 11 as the Pro Late Model division returns for their third 20/30 doubleheader of the season. The Barry’s U Pull It Pro Trucks, Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsmen and Island Motors II Bombers will also be in action.
