WOODSTOCK, GA – While thunderstorms roamed throughout North Georgia Saturday night, nary a drop fell on Dixie Speedway, as Shane Clanton thundered his way to the Woodstock, GA’s victory lane, becoming the seventh different Super Late Model feature winner of the season.
The feature began with the Chastain brothers, Shawn and Johnny, both of Murphy, NC, starting on the front row and taking the top two spots for the first several laps. With Shawn out front, Johnny was left to hold off Clanton for second, giving up the spot on lap six. Shawn Chastain held the lead while Clanton waited patiently to make his move on lap 26, when he made a dive under Chastain in turn three and came out of turn four in the lead. Clanton went on to take the win with Shawn Chastain in second. Dale Thurman finished third with Austin Smith in fourth and Johnny Chastain in fifth.
In other action, Don Jenkins became the first repeat winner of the season in the Steel Head Late Model division, as he led the way the entire distance for the win. Alan Brewer came up short in the end and settled in second. Mario Gresham finished in third, with Chris Fennell in fourth and Eric Granger in fifth.
It was a duel for the lead in the Crate Late Models, as Ted Minnix had to hold off Zach Pilcher every lap until the halfway point. On lap ten, the drivers came upon a slower car attempting to pull in the pits. They split the car with Minnix going high, Pilcher low. Pilcher’s front end gave loose just enough putting him into the slower car, sending Pilcher for a major flip down the front stretch ending at the flagstand. Pilcher was uninjured but his car was destroyed.
On the restart, Minnix took the lead once again with Maddie Crane in second the rest of the race distance. Matt Black finished in third while fourth fell to Justin Shipley with Hunter Jones in fifth.
Terry Vollrath took the Super Bomber win, leading Kenny Taylor, Andy Morris, Randall Powell, and Roy Patterson to the checkered flag.
While the crowd watched three time winner Dan Meadows thread his way from the rear of the Economy Bomber starting field, Ryan Ray, of Canton, GA held off David Burtz for his first ever win. Meadows would rise to third ahead of James Gagnon in fouth and Brent Beard in fifth.
It was Championship night in the Pony Stocks, as Travis Smith took the lead on lap four to go on for the win. Jeremy Ray came out on top of the race for second with Ronnie Faucett finishing third, Matt Smith fourth and C.J. Dettmar in fifth.
Todd Lankster once again found victory lane in the Cruiser feature starting last in the field. Completing the top five were Jimmy Wilson, John Sexton, Randy Ledford, and Daniel Ray.
