McCoy Races To ‘Peanut Man’ Memorial Win At Hartwell

HARTWELL, GA – Racing is very much a family sport, especially on the local level. On Saturday night, Hartwell Speedway in Hartwell, GA honored one of its own, as the track held the inaugural Wendell “Peanut Man” Rousey Memorial, in honor one of the speedway’s family members who passed away earlier this year due to cancer.

David McCoy powered his way to the pole and to the victory in one of Rousey’s favorite divisions, the Limited Late Models.

Hartwell Speedway owner Marty Lance and the Rousey family decided upon hosting an extra money race in the division. Over thirteen of the sports best showed up to compete for the $1,200 dollar pay day. McCoy would qualify on the pole and collect an extra $200 bonus for fastest qualifier presented to by Rousey family.

McCoy would lead every lap of the main event to score the victory. Keith Freeman, who has been on the cusp of winning for several weeks, finished a close second. Brandon Haley would take third, followed by Clayton Turner in fourth and Jeff Lamp in fifth.

In other action, Steve “Hot Rod” LaMance edged out McCoy to pick up the SECA Late Model feature victory. Grant Jordan came home in third, with Royce Bray in fourth and Ashley Poole in fifth.

George Reece scored the win in the Hobby Stock feature, with Nick Sellers crossing the line in second. Brent Russell rolled home in third, with Matt Duke in fourth and Matthew Bryant in fifth.

Chris Jones went to victory lane in the Modified Street feature. Stephen Segars finished second, with Michael Segars third, Richard Jones in fourth and Jeremy Jones in fifth.

Cal Moon topped the field for the Stock V8 feature victory. Rocky Jones came home in second, with Keith Teasley in third, Terry Brown in fourth and Ray Foskey in fifth.

In Stock Four Cylinder action, Brent Couch picked up the win, with Mason Tucker, Ryan Boles, J.J. Garrett and Cy Strickland rounding out the top five.

Adam Partain scored the victory in the Young Guns feature. Jeremy Hicks finished second, with Jessica Still third, Brandon Elliott fourth and Brianna Puckett fifth.

Wayne Chapman was the winner in the Up Front feature, with Stacy Foster finishing in second, Travis Barbare in third, Neil Meeks in fourth and Seth Brown in fifth.

Action returns to Hartwell Speedway this Saturday night, as the SECA Late Models compete for $1,200 to win and double points. For more info, visit hartwell-speedway.com.
