Thursday night was a big night for the Burton family.
Harrison Burton, the 13 year old son of NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Jeff Burton, became the youngest ever Pro Late Model winner in the history of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, as he passed Brad May late in the going to score the victory at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
After starting on the pole, Burton would drop to second as Brad May moved to the early lead. Burton would begin dogging May for the top spot, but May would hold him at bay.
As the laps wound down, Burton would continue to stay within shouting distance of the leader. With 23 laps to go, Burton got a run off turn two, and would make the pass in turn three to move into the top spot.
Burton would lead through two more caution flags and went on to score the victory. May finished in second, with Anderson Bowen in third, Alex Guenette in fourth and Sheldon Creed in fifth.
Cole Timm, Spencer Davis, Kirk Hooker, Marc Jacobs and Tyler Audie rounded out the top 10.
In other action, Ryan Moore edged out Steven Wallace to score the Super Late Model feature victory. Stephen Nasse came home in third, with Cameron Hayley in fourth and Spencer Davis in fifth.
In Tour Type Modifieds, Justin Bonsignore came away with the win. Tommy Barrett, Ron Silk, Ryan Preece and Patrick Emerling rounded out the top five.
Justin Reynolds picked up the win in the Super Stock feature. Butch Herdegen finished in second, with David Gould in third, Bobby Holley in fourth and Becca Samsoe in fifth.
Action continues Friday night at New Smyrna Speedway with the 28th annual Richie Evans Memorial for the Tour Type Modifieds, along with action from the Super Late Models, the Pro Late Models and Mini Stocks.
