Like so many before him, Chase Elliott’s road to the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) tour traveled through the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.

As the youngest superspeedway winner in stock car history with his ARCA win at Pocono last year, the second-generation driver has made good use of his time in ARCA, which includes 10 top-10 finishes in 11 starts reaching back to 2012.

The son of two-time Daytona 500 champion Bill Elliott plans to make good use of the ARCA tour at least one more time when he makes his first attempt at Daytona International Speedway in the 51st running of the Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real. The ARCA race at Daytona will serve as valuable superspeedway experience when he comes back for the February 22nd Drive4COPD 300 Nationwide race.

“The biggest thing I see is having an opportunity to race at Daytona before the NNS race,” Elliott said.

“Getting used to how the draft works under race conditions and getting used to how spotting is going to go will be key as well. It is a completely different type of racing than I’ve ever done so all the experience I can get before the 22nd will be helpful.”

Elliott got his feet wet in the late December ARCA open test at Daytona.

It’s kind of a weird feeling for him and me both.
“When we get a chance to do a little bit of drafting in the ARCA race, that’s where I’m going to have to learn a lot. The superspeedway stuff is different for me.”

As one might expect, Elliott will lean on his father for advice.

“I think his knowledge and his experience is going to be more so beneficial when it comes time to be around other cars,” Elliott said. “I think he’s one of the best when it comes to understanding the air and what it takes to take advantage of it when you’re with other guys around you and trying to get runs on people. Whenever that side comes into play, I’m sure he is going to have some tips for me.”

In addition to his win at Pocono, he has ARCA finishes of second on the New Jersey Motorsports Park road course in 2012, third at New Jersey in 2013, third and fourth at Salem Speedway in 2012, fourth at the Road America road course in 2013, seventh at Berlin Raceway in 2012, eighth at Madison Int’l Speedway in 2012, ninth at Pocono in 2013, 10th at Mobile Int’l Speedway in 2012, and 27th at Kentucky Speedway in 2013. He also won the Menards Pole presented by Ansell at Salem in 2012 and qualified second at New Jersey in 2013.

Elliott also made nine starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series last year, posting five top-five finishes, including becoming the youngest winner in series history with a surprising victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He also became the youngest pole winner in the series history at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real at Daytona is live on FOX Sports 1 Saturday, February 15, and precedes NASCAR’s Sprint Unlimited.

“To finally be able to come down here and be a part of this is pretty neat,” Elliott said.
