Dale Kelly scored the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modified feature win Saturday night, while Ausitn Sanders scored the division championship at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.
Nate Bregenzer and Bobby Dixon scored wins in their heat races. For the feature Steve Miller and Jerry Bruce, Jr. made up the front row. Miller would lead until lap seven when Kelley took the lead and never looked back to win the caution free feature. Sanders finished second to score his third championship in the last four years in the division. Brothers Matt Miller and Steve Miller finished third and fourth while Jerry Bruce, Jr. finished fifth
In other action, the first feature of the night was the Florida Old Time Modifieds. Winning their heats were Charlie Mixson and David Kelly. For the feature it would be Tom McDonald and Gary Riccio making up the front row. McDonald would lead the first lap, but gave up the top spot to Roger Herbach on lap two. Herbach would lead until lap 11 until Jamie Franklin took over the top spot and went on to score the win in the caution free feature. Herbach finished second, with Dan Darnell in third, Kelly in fourth and Steve Campbell in fifth.
Next up were the Limited Late Models. Winning their heats were Shane Koperda and Thomas Scott. Stephen Hohlbaugh and Jason Dyal would make up the front row for the feature. It took three attempts to get the race started with cars tangling in turn four the first time and then piling up in turn one the second time. On the third attempt, Dyal led the first lap with Roger Crouse moving out front on lap two. Crouse would go on to win the feature with Dale Pope unofficially winning the points championship with a second place finish. Forrest Gough finished in third, with Shane Koperda in fourth and Jeremey Simpson in fifth.
Outlaw Fours were next with Eric Knight winning the heat. On the front row it would be Jesse James Foster and Knight for the feature. Foster would lead the first three laps until caution slowed the action for debris on the track. Several more cautions would come out but on lap nine points leader Foster would break on the back stretch. Brandon Yates would take the final green and go on to win his first ever feature in the Outlaw Fours. Rounding out the top five were Nick Hebrank, Rachelle Rudolph, Foster and Knight.
The final feature of the night would be the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers with George Handy and Kayla Jones winning their heats. The duo would make up the front row for the feature. It would be the another caution free feature as Handy went on to win the feature. Jimmy Baker finished second with Patrick Fiore, Sr. in third, Jones in fourth and Wayne Kissam in fifth.
