The Southern Super Series event slated for Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville on Sept. 7 has been cancelled, according to the series’ website.
In a letter posted on the series website, Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville promoter Tony Formosa says that the track will be unable to host the event, which was scheduled to run during the Tennessee State Fair.
“After ten days of contract negotiations with the TN State Fair Association, we have been unable to reach an acceptable agreement regarding the percentage of gate and concession fees from the association for this event,” said Formosa in the letter. “By contract the TN State Fair Association’s lease controls the entire Fairgrounds & Expo Center property including the Speedway during their annual event. It is unfortunate we were not able to come to an agreement, but rest assured every effort was made to do so.”
However, according to the track’s Facebook page, Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville will host six of their eight regular divisions that night, with the Front Runners, Legends, Pure Stocks, Super Streets, Limited Late Models, and Pro Late Models scheduled to compete.
The Southern Super Series event came about after the July 4 running of the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park was pushed back to Aug. 10 due to inclimate weather. The SSS race scheduled for GMP on Aug. 10 was combined with the existing date. Series officials moved a make-up date to Nashville.
There has been no word as to if there will be a rescheduled date for the Sept. 7 race at Nashville.
The announcement comes on the heel of a decision by series officials to not reschedule the rained out July 27 event at Mobile International Speedway.
